Sean Dyche has his work cut out for him as Everton manager, with the Toffees currently in the relegation zone. It’s one of the closest relegation battles in recent memory with Everton only in the bottom three on goal difference, but they have played one game more than 17th-placed Leeds United. The Toffees are also only a point off bottom and we’ll be seeing the makeup of the relegation zone changing umpteen times between now and the end of the campaign.

Brentford, meanwhile, have aspirations higher up the table, currently ninth and only three points behind sixth-placed Newcastle United in the race for European football. Thomas Frank’s men also have the longest active unbeaten run in the Premier League right now, extending it to 12 games thanks to their 3-2 win over Fulham on Monday.

Everton team news

Everton’s injury issues have been clearing in recent weeks and they could welcome back as many as three players this weekend. Vitaliy Mykolenko missed the 2-2 draw with Nottingham Forest due to illness but is expected to be back available for the visit of Brentford, while Everton will also hope to be able to call upon Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Nathan Patterson.

Andros Townsend, however, will not be available at least for another month as he recovers from a knee injury.

Brentford team news

Brentford essentially have a fully-fit squad from which to choose though they are still without backup goalkeeper Thomas Strakosha. But with David Raya in the form he is in, being the only goalkeeper to make 100+ saves in the Premier League this season, the former Lazio goalkeeper wouldn’t have troubled the starting XI anyway.

Pontus Jansson and Frank Onyeka both made their returns to the matchday squad against Fulham after injury layoffs, but Keane Lewis-Potter missed out and has undergone minor surgery on a knee injury and won’t be back for another month.
