The American Express Community Stadium was a happy home for England at Euro 2022, the setting for their 8-0 group-stage thrashing of Norway and 2-1 win over Spain in the quarter-finals, and the Lionesses are back on Tuesday night. It’s been just over a year since Wiegman took charge of the Lionesses and they remain unbeaten after 23 games, winning 21.

Last time out they overcome what many perceived to be their biggest test so far, beating world champions the United States 2-1 at Wembley. With strikes from Lauren Hemp and Georgia Stanway, put on a statement display as they start to build towards next summer’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand. It was also their 15th consecutive victory, last failing to win in a goalless draw with Spain at the Arnold Clark Cup.

Czech Republic failed to qualify for next summer’s World Cup but they have proven to be tricky opposition for some of the world’s biggest teams, holding both the Netherlands and USWNT to draws within the past year. They go into this game unbeaten in their past three matches with 16 goals scored and three conceded, but haven’t beaten England in four attempts (one draw).

England Women v Czech Republic Women: Match Stats

Hemp and Stanway’s goals against USWNT on Friday took the Lionesses to 120 goals scored during Wiegman’s reign, in just 23 matches. Sophia Smith’s equaliser was also just the sixth goal England have conceded since Wiegman took over, with 17 clean sheets.

Stanway is perhaps one of the more under-appreciated players of this England team and only Beth Mead (37) has been directly involved in more goals for the Lionesses under Wiegman. In 22 appearances, Stanway has scored 12 goals and recorded 12 assists, one of three players to hit double figures for both.

England Women v Czech Republic Women: Team news

Sarina Wiegman played a strong XI against USWNT last time out but may opt to rotate slightly, with Sandy MacIver and Ellie Roebuck pushing for a chance in goal. Lauren Hemp was the central forward against USWNT and starred in that role so could start there once again, though Ebony Salmon will be hoping for some minutes as will Lauren James.

Andrea Staskova scored a hat-trick for Czech Republic in their 3-3 draw with Hungary on Friday, with goalkeeper Olivia Lukasova also saving a penalty in the first half. Women’s Super League fans will have a eye on Katerina Svitkova, who recently joined Chelsea after two years at West Ham.
