The 2016 European champions are currently second in Group A2 after four matches, but Fernando Santos’ side are within touching distance of current pace-setters Spain ahead of this week’s round of fixtures. The Group A2 landscape is slightly different for Czech Republic, who are looking nervously over their shoulders at current bottom-nation Switzerland. Granit Xhaka and Co currently occupy the relegation place but are only a point behind Czech Republic.

Czech Republic team news

Patrik Schick, Jiri Pavlenka and Petr Sevcik have all returned to the national squad. Vladimir Coufal and Tomas Soucek are naturally among those called up, despite their respective troubles for West Ham this campaign. Precocious marksman Adam Hlozek is also among the names listed by Jaroslav Silhavy.

Portugal team news

Despite falling down the pecking order at Old Trafford, Fernando Santos wouldn’t dare omit international football’s most prolific player from his roll call. Cristiano Ronaldo, of course, gets the nod for this month’s two fixtures. Uncapped Benfica striker Goncalo Ramos is also rubbing shoulders with the heavyweights after his rise to prominence in Lisbon. Tiago Djalo is the only other uncapped Portuguese to catch the attention of Santos.

Scoreline prediction: Czech Republic 0-2 Portugal
