Crystal Palace v Arsenal preview:

Arsenal fans will be cursing the end of the 2021/22 Premier League campaign which saw them drop out of the top four, sealing yet another season without Champions League football. But there will be optimism around the Emirates Stadium after their summer work and a positive start will only increase that. However, Crystal Palace had a good first season under Patrick Vieira and will be hoping to build on that, perhaps pushing for a European spot.

Crystal Palace team news

Preparing for his second season in charge at Crystal Palace, Vieira has brought in five new players in the summer transfer window, with the star arrival being Cheick Doucoure from Lens. Also arriving at Selhurst Park so far have been Chris Richards, Cormac Austin, Sam Johnstone and Malcolm Ebiowei. Unfortunately, Johnstone will not be available for the start of the season, missing through a thigh injury.

Jack Butland is also absent for the hosts so Vicente Guaita should start in goal, while James McArthur and Michael Olise are injured.

Arsenal team news

Arsenal have also made five new signings so far this summer and they have been statement arrivals made to push for the top four. Gabriel Jesus will be the poster boy of the summer, joining from Manchester City, and he has been joined at the Emirates by former Citizens teammate Oleksandr Zinchenko. Fabio Vieira is the third player that Arsenal paid £30m+ for this summer, while Matt Turner and Marquinhos have added to the depth.

However, Fabio Vieira’s inclusion in the opening game is currently in doubt as the Portuguese midfielder missed a bit of pre-season through a foot injury. Arsenal will also be hoping Kieran Tierney, Emile Smith Rowe and Takehiro Tomiyasu are available for selection after they missed the Emirates Cup win over Sevilla.

Scoreline prediction: Crystal Palace 1-2 Arsenal
