Over the next two weeks the Champions League last 16 will come to an end and Benfica go into their second leg against Club Brugge in a good position. The Portuguese side are 2-0 up on aggregate thanks to goals from Joao Mario and David Neres in the first leg in Bruges, continuing their excellent domestic form.

For Club Brugge, the first leg result was unfortunately just another bad performance since Scott Parker took charge in December. The former Fulham and Bournemouth manager has now won just two of his first 11 games in charge of Club Brugge, though there have only been three defeats.

Benfica team news

Chiquinho suffered a muscle injury in Benfica’s 2-0 victory over Vizela last month and missed the win over Famalicao at the weekend but Roger Schmidt has confirmed his availability for selection. Fredrik Aursnes replaced Chiquinho alongside Florentino at the weekend so will still be hoping to start again should Schmidt not want to risk Chiquinho from the start. Goncalo Guedes is also available after injury concerns, as is Alexander Bah.

However, Mihailo Ristic and Julian Draxler are still out, with the latter expected to miss the remainder of the season after undergoing surgery on an ankle injury.

Club Brugge team news

Scott Parker has named his travelling squad for the trip to Benfica and there are no surprises.

Andreas Skov Olsen suffered a hip injury last month and is still out, as is Jack Hendry who had started the first leg defeat to Benfica at centre-back. The American picked up a thigh injury just 25 minutes into Club Brugge’s 2-0 win over Gent just over a week ago and has been replaced in defence by Abakar Sylla.
