Mauricio Pochettino will get his first look at the Chelsea squad against Premier League opposition when they take on Brighton as part of their United States tour.

After taking over in the summer, Pochettino will have already seen his new team in action against Wrexham, but this will be their first game against a similar-level opponent, and one that finished above them in the Premier League — even though it is only a friendly, some form of bragging rights will be up for grabs.

This is the first of three friendlies for Brighton in America, as they also take on Newcastle United and Brentford, before closing pre-season at the Amex against Rayo Vallecano.

Chelsea team news

Chelsea have named their 29-man travelling squad for the US tour and there are a few notable absentees. Firstly, Wesley Fofana has undergone ACL reconstruction surgery so will be out for some time, joining centre-back partner Benoit Badiashile on the sidelines. Also out injured are Marcus Bettinelli and Armando Broja, while Reece James will arrive late due to illness so his inclusion is yet to be confirmed.

Also not involved are the likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Romelu Lukaku, Hakim Ziyech and Callum Hudson-Odoi, all of whom appear close to the door.

But among those included are Christopher Nkunku, Nicolas Jackson, Cesare Casadei, Levi Colwill, Trevoh Chalobah and Gabriel Slonina as well as young new arrivals Angelo Gabriel and Diego Moreira.

Brighton team news

Brighton are yet to confirm their squad but according to reports Moises Caicedo is expected to travel and could be in contention to face the club pushing to sign him this summer. According to the latest reports, Brighton have rejected a bid from Chelsea worth £70m, with their valuations a lot closer to £100m.

Robert Sanchez isn’t expected to be part of the squad, currently being linked with a move away having lost the No.1 spot to Jason Steele in March and later requesting to not be included in matchday squads.
