Chelsea Team News:

Graham Potter will once again be without Kepa after the goalkeeper picked up an injury in the first half against Brighton, so Edouard Mendy will be between the sticks once more. Ben Chilwell has joined N’Golo Kante, Wesley Fofana and Reece James on the sidelines after a hamstring issue forced him off against Dinamo Zagreb in midweek and will play no part here.

Mateo Kovacic is once again back in contention after returning to training, but Denis Zakaria, who scored on his Chelsea debut against Dinamo Zagreb may not be risked after picking up a knock.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang faces his former side for the first time since he was stripped of the Arsenal captaincy and forced him to train with the reserves after a spat with head coach Mikel Arteta last season. Auba scored 68 goals in 128 Premier League games for Arsenal between 2018 and 2021 and his goalscoring prowess is something the Arsenal manager has never doubted.

“If Auba has anything, it’s the ability to put the ball in the back of the net,” said Arteta. “He’s going to be doing that until the day he decides he’s had enough of football.”

A goal here will see the Gabon striker become just the second player to score for both sides in this fixture in the Premier League (excluding own goals), after Cesc Fàbregas.

Arsenal  Team News:

Midfielder Mohamed Elneny has also had his say on how manager Mikel Arteta dealt with Auba, claiming that his teammates were “scared into line” by his actions.

“If anyone is not the captain of the team, does a small mistake, they are going to have the same problem,” he said. “Everyone was scared! Everyone is scared with their position because this happened to Aubameyang.

“We don’t allow big egos. This is the dressing room we have now. Everyone loves each other and everyone works for each other. This is what actually makes our squad really strong, because we don’t have egos in the team.

“What is he going to do with another player? This showed that now we can’t play around, now we have to be calm with the team and the way the team is going we have to stick with the team, not do something different. We agree with what Mikel decided because he is our boss and we just have to agree what his vision is for (us).”

“We know what we are going there to do, because now we know we look for the title, he said. “Now we have a thing to push for. We just push every day. We know we have a good team, we have good staff and Mikel really makes us feel like we are a really strong team now. And we just believe every day we can do something special this year. “We need to put Arsenal in the place they actually deserve. This is what we play for.”

The Egyptian is expected to start from the bench on Saturday however, after the impressive partnership that Granit Xhaka and Thomas Partey have formed in the middle of midfield. The Gunners will be without Matt Turner and Emile Smith Rowe once more, while Takehiro Tomiyasu is a doubt after being forced off 15 minutes after joining the action in the Europa League in midweek.

Oleksandr Zinchenko has returned to training, but this game may have come too soon for hte full-back to start, but Bukayo Saka should come straight back into the starting XI after his ankle injury proved to be nothing serious.
