After drawing the first match of the Potter era 1-1 against Red Bull Salzburg, Chelsea have won their past five games across all competitions including the past four without conceding a single goal. The Blues are now top of their Champions League group and fourth in the Premier League, three points clear of fifth-placed Manchester United. Brentford, meanwhile, are in ninth having ended a three-match winless streak with victory over Brighton at the weekend, moving them just six points behind Chelsea.

Brentford team news

Brentford will be without four players for this London derby including Christian Norgaard, who isn’t expected to be out for much longer. However, Thomas Frank is also without Thomas Strakosha, Pontus Jansson and Aaron Hickey for longer periods, with the former picking up an ankle ligament injury while saving a penalty in training just last week.

Chelsea team news

Thiago Silva picked up a knock in the win over Aston Villa at the weekend and may not be risked from the start, as Chelsea usually manage his game time when the matches come thick and fast. Hakim Ziyech was not part of the squad for the win either, still recovering from illness, but may look to return in midweek. However, Chelsea are still without Reece James, who is now facing a fight to be fit for the World Cup, with Wesley Fofana and N’Golo Kante also out until after the tournament – the latter recently undergoing surgery on a hamstring injury.

Scoreline prediction: Brentford 0-2 Chelsea
