Braga team news
It’s a tall order for clubs outside the Big Three (Porto, Sporting and Benfica) to finish in the Primeira Liga’s top three but Braga were the last club to do so, finishing third in 2019/20. And sometimes clubs lower down the table do lose players to the Big Three, which was the case for Braga this summer, with centre-back David Carmo leaving for Porto. There have been four new arrivals at Braga so far but only Simon Banza (from Lens) has joined on a permanent basis. Sikou Niakate, Victor Gomez and Diego Lainez have also joined on loan.
Sporting CP team news
Sporting also saw big departures this summer, with Nuno Mendes making his loan move to Paris Saint-Germain permanent and Joao Palhinha leaving for the Premier League and Fulham. Elsewhere there has been a trimming down of the squad with the likes of Andraz Sporar and Valentin Rosier also leaving, while Ruben Vinagre has joined Everton on loan.
Vinagre had been signed by Sporting permanent this summer after his loan move from Wolves, and another former loanee turned permanent fixture is Pedro Porro, who had a purchase option from Manchester City. Elsewhere, Jeremiah St. Juste has joined from Mainz and former Braga man Francisco Trincao is a loan arrival from Barcelona, with Hidemasa Morita, Rochinha and Franco Israel also arriving.
Antonio Adan remains out due to injury, so Israel may start in goal on Sunday.
Scoreline prediction: Braga 1-1 Sporting CP
