The 2022/23 Portuguese Cup, or Taca de Portugal, is at the quarter-final stage with eight teams looking to secure their spot in the final four. The only all-Primeira Liga tie of the quarter-finals, both these sides entered the competition in the third round, with three wins to reach this stage.

To reach the quarter-finals, Benfica have knocked out Caldas, Estoril and Varzim, but it hasn’t been a straight-forward route. Braga, meanwhile, have beaten Felgueiras, Moreirense and Vitoria. The winner will face either Casa Pia or Nacional in the two-legged semi-finals, scheduled for April and May.

Braga team news

Ricardo Horta has missed the past three league games due to injury but the Braga captain is set to return to the starting XI, having worked hard to regain fitness in time for the cup clash with Benfica. Pizzi will also be looking to make an impact having joined from Al-Wahd at the end of the January transfer window, after leaving Benfica last summer.

Benfica team news

Goncalo Ramos has missed the past two league games due to injury and he isn’t expected to be back for this match, with January loan arrival Goncalo Guedes continuing in his absence.

But Roger Schmidt has an otherwise fully fit squad and will go all out to reach the semi-finals, with Rafa back in contention after returning from injury at the weekend.
