Manchester City has already booked their place in the round of 16. They will be confirmed in first place if they avoid defeat. As for Dortmund, they will go through if they win, if they draw and Copenhagen does not win, or regardless if Sevilla and Copenhagen draw.
Dortmund have won just one of their five Champions League matches against Manchester City, a 1-0 home win in the 2012/13 group stage. City, meanwhile, has won their last three Champions League games against Dortmund, winning every game 2-1. No side has ever beaten another by the same score in four consecutive games in the competition (Bayern Munich beat Arsenal 5-1 three in a row between 2015 and 2017).
Borussia Dortmund team news
Heading into matchday five Dortmund will be missing nine players, among those included are injured quartet Thomas Meunier, Mahmoud Dahoud, Marco Reus and Donyell Malen while Salih Özcan serves a suspension. Jude Bellingham, who is enjoying his most prolific campaign in a BVB jersey, should be one of the first names on Edin Terzic’s team sheet. The much-wanted English midfielder is Dortmund’s leading scorer in this season’s Champions League having already netted on four occasions with all of those efforts coming in separate matchday. Bellingham had put Dortmund in front when the sides last met.
Man City team news
The defending Premier League champions travel without John Stones, Kyle Walker, Kalvin Phillips and the suspended Sergio Gómez though Pep Guardiola could make a number of changes with a place in the knockout phase sealed. However, with first place still up for grabs, Erling Haaland is likely to make his Westfalenstadion return. If he plays and scores for Manchester City, it will be the third time already that he has scored in 5+ consecutive appearances in the Champions League. Only five players have previously found the net in 5+ consecutive outings on as many as three separate occasions – Cristiano Ronaldo (5), Lionel Messi (3), Robert Lewandowski (3), Zlatan Ibrahimovic (3) and Ruud van Nistelrooy (3).
Scoreline prediction: Borussia Dortmund 2-2 Man City
