Borussia Dortmund can confirm qualification to some form of European knockout football on Tuesday night when they welcome Sevilla to the Ruhr district. BVB will be flying high after they mauled Los Nervionenses 4-1 in Andalusia, which ultimately cost Julen Lopetegui his job (and saw Jorge Sampaoli reinstated after five years), while they also snatched a draw from the jaws of defeat in Saturday night’s 2-2 Der Klassiker against Bayern Munich.

As the current Group G table stands, Manchester City are habitually leading the charge with a flawless start, with Dortmund coming in shortly after as the only other club to have at least one win on the board. Edin Terzic knows another triumph on Tuesday night would guarantee Dortmund knockout European football, and if results work in their favour, confirmed qualification to the Champions League last-16.

Borussia Dortmund v Sevilla: Match Stats

Jude Bellingham has netted in all three of his appearances in the Champions League so far (three goals), and he could make history on Tuesday night. No English teenager has ever netted more than three goals in a single season in the competition. As things stand, Bellingham is currently level with Wayne Rooney for Manchester United in 2004/05 (three). Even more incredibly, only Erling Haaland (five) has been directly involved in more goals than Bellingham so far in the competition (four – three goals, one assist).

Anthony Modeste also enters this contest riding the crest of a wave. The ageing marksman was the difference-maker in the weekend’s vintage Der Klassiker. He emerged from the bench to both set up Youssoufa Moukoko, and then snatch a 95th-minuter equaliser to send the famed Yellow Wall into raptures. He will be itching to now open his Champions League account for the club.

Borussia Dortmund v Sevilla: Team news

Dortmund have quite the extensive casualty list at the minute, with Marco Reus, Mats Hummels and teenage sensation Jamie Bynoe-Gittens all currently occupying the Westfalenstadion infirmary. Mahmoud Dahoud is also out of action, as are Sebastien Haller and Mateu Morey. Sevilla’s two major concerns are that to Tecatito and Karim Rekik, with the former not expected back until the New Year.
