Bayern Munich vs Monaco preview:
Bayern Munich close their pre-season preparations with a friendly against French side Monaco, hosted by Sportpark Unterhaching. The defending German champions open their campaign next weekend with the DFL-Supercup against DFB-Pokal winners RB Leipzig before facing Werder Bremen in the Bundesliga a week later. Preparing for Thomas Tuchel’s first full season in charge, Bayern started pre-season with a 27-0 thrashing of lower league FC Rottach-Egern before moving onto their tour of Asia which brought a defeat to Manchester City but wins over Kawasaki Frontale and Liverpool. Bayern have also made some movement on the transfer front, bringing in Kim Min-jae, Raphael Guerreiro and Konrad Laimer, the latter duo on free transfers, while still chasing Tottenham striker Harry Kane.
This is also Monaco’s final friendly of pre-season with the 2023/24 Ligue 1 campaign getting underway next weekend, and a trip to Clermont Foot on the cards. Monaco are also preparing for life under a new manager with Adi Hütter coming in to replace Philippe Clement who was sacked shortly after the end of the 2022/23 campaign. Pre-season has brought a mixed bag of results for Monaco, with a draw and defeat in Belgium to Union Saint-Gilloise and Cercle Brugge respectively. They followed that up with three wins over Real Betis, Leeds and Bologna, before losing to Genoa and being beaten on penalties by Arsenal in the Emirates Cup. There have been two new signings for Monaco so far this summer with Mohamed Salisu and Philipp Kohn coming in, while Axel Disasi has joined Chelsea as one of the outgoings.
