Bayern Munich and Man City meet in the Japanese capital for a heavyweight pre-season friendly later this week.

Pep Guardiola’s Treble winners got their 2023/24 preparations underway last week with a 5-3 win over Japanese champions Yokohama F. Marinos in the colloquially-dubbed ‘J.League World Challenge’. They now finish up in Tokyo against Bayern Munich before travelling to South Korea.

Thomas Tuchel’s side have only played one pre-season friendly as well, and it was also a high-scoring affair, though notably more than City’s. Bayern smashed German minnows Rottach-Egern 27-0 last week, but the European champions should provide a more stern test in the Far East.

Bayern Munich team news

Kim Min-jae will be eyeing up his first appearance for Bayern Munich following his switch from Napoli earlier this month, but fellow summer arrival Raphael Guerreiro has been ruled out with a knee injury. The Portuguese joins Manuel Neuer and Thomas Muller on the sidelines, while Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting is a doubt following a slight knock sustained against Rottach-Egern.

Man City team news

Kevin De Bruyne remains doubtful following his injury in the Champions League final. The Belgian was on the bench against Yokohama F. Marinos last week but didn’t feature. Mateo Kovacic impressed on his unofficial debut and will be hoping to get some further minutes on Wednesday against his former manager, while Kalvin Phillips will be eyeing up successive starts.
