Barcelona vs AC Milan team news
After France reached the semi-finals of Euro 2024, Jules Kounde has linked up with the Barcelona squad. He watched the win over Real Madrid from the stands but could get his first minutes of pre-season here. Euro 2024 winners Lamine Yamal, Pedri and Ferran are also back in training, but they are in Barcelona and will link up with the squad when they return.
Pau Cubarsi, Eric Garcia and Fermin are also away, still on duty with Spain at the Olympics. Pau Victor was the two-goal hero against Real Madrid, playing on the right flank, with Robert Lewandowski spearheading what is an inexperienced attack.
AC Milan are also missing Euro 2024 players, with Mike Maignan, Theo Hernandez and Tijjani Reijnders all set to join after the club return from America. However, they do still have the likes of Christian Pulisic, Luka Jovic and Fikayo Tomori to call upon.
Rafael Leao missed the 1-0 win over Real Madrid but should return here.
Barcelona vs AC Milan predicted lineups
Barcelona (4-2-3-1): Ter Stegen; Kounde, Christensen, Martinez, Balde; Gundogan, Bernal; Raphinha, Torre, Victor; Lewandowski.
AC Milan (4-2-3-1): Torriani; Calabria, Tomori, Thiaw, Terracciano; Bennacer, Loftus-Cheek; Chukwueze, Pulisic, Leao; Jovic.
Where is Jules Kounde’s best position?
This game could be the first chance for Jules Kounde to play under Hansi Flick. And there may be questions as to where he will play.
The Frenchman is first and foremost a centre-back, and was one when he joined Barcelona. However, he has been utilised more as a right-back for club and country, a position he has thrived in.
However, while Kounde has insisted that he is happy to play anywhere, the Frenchman has stated his favoured position is in the centre of defence.
“I’ll go wherever the team needs me. I’ve spoken to the coach and told him I feel comfortable in either position,” he told reporters.
“Last season I may have developed a bit as a full back, and I played there in the European Championship too, but centre back is still my favourite place.
“But I’m happy to go wherever I’m needed most.”
