Barcelona team news

There’s a renewed sense of optimism at Barcelona who have started their La Liga campaign undefeated (three wins and one draw). Head coach Xavi comes into this Champions League opener with a fully available squad to choose from. It remains to be seen the makeup of his starting lineup but there’s no doubt summer recruit Robert Lewandowski will lead Barça’s attack. The lethal 34-year-old Polish marksman scored more goals than any other player in the Champions League across the last three seasons and should he net in this game, he’d be only the third player to score for both Barcelona and Bayern Munich in the competition, after Mark van Bommel and Philippe Coutinho.

Viktoria team news

Also starting this season unbeaten is Viktoria Plzen who are set to play their first Champions League game since December 2018. Michal Bílek’s men had to go through several qualifying rounds winning five of their six matches heading into this season’s group campaign. They subsequently journey to Spain without forward Petr Pejsa who is sidelined with a serious knee injury. His teammate Tomas Chory, meanwhile, was directly involved in four goals in six appearances in this season’s Champions League qualifying stage (two goals and two assists), more than any other Viktoria player.

Scoreline prediction: Barcelona 3-0 Viktoria
