Atletico will look to cement their place in the Champions League spots when they face-off against a Getafe side that have lost each of their last four matches in LaLiga. Diego Simeone’s men kept back-to-back league clean sheets for the first time this season with wins over Real Valladolid and Osasuna as they aim to make it three in a row vs a Getafe side that have failed to score in the last two.

Quique Sánchez Flores’ men have failed to win any of their previous 20 league matches against Atleti (D2 L18) with Getafe looking for their first league win in encounters between the two sides since November 2011. Atleti have outscored los Azulones 40-4 during their unbeaten streak.

Atletico Madrid team news

Marcos Llorente and Stefan Savic will both miss the visit of Getafe, but new signing Matt Doherty should go straight into the squad after joining on a free transfer, after being released by Tottenham to make this move happen.

The Irishman had no questions about joining Atleti, claiming it was a “no-brainer”.

“For me, it was kind of a no-brainer once the opportunity came and I had to take it with both hands. It’s an absolute pleasure to be here.” He told the Spanish press.

“I never imagined at the time something like this would be able to happen. Back in time when I was doing everything my dream initially was to play in the Premier League. I fulfilled that dream. “But opportunities come that are unexpected at times, and this was an opportunity I saw that if I made the move I could better myself as a person exploring different cultures and different football. Like I said before, once the opportunity came it was impossible for me to give it up.”

“For me it is an opportunity to improve myself and work under another world-class manager, I’ve been fortunate enough where I have been able to do that through my career. “‘Initially now it is only for six months, but let’s see if I can continue to do well for the club and see what happens going forward. “As you know he [Simeone] doesn’t speak a lot of English, so my message to him was I’m here, I’m fit, I’m strong and I’m ready to play. I can play for him on the left, I can play for him on the right or through the middle. “Wherever he needs me, whether I play five minutes or 90 minutes, he knows that I won’t stop running and working as hard as possible for him, the club and my team-mates.”

Getafe team news

Munir El Haddadi is a doubt due to a calf problem he picked up against Espanyol, but the Moroccan is yet to start a league game for his new club after joining from Sevilla in the summer. Mauro Arambarri has not played since October and remains out.
