Heading into this latest Premier League round Arsenal lead the way atop the championship table on 40 points, a point above Liverpool through 18 matches. Mikel Arteta’s men played out a 1-1 draw at Liverpool last time out. On home soil this season the Gunners are unbeaten having claimed seven wins and two draws from their nine contests. Bukayo Saka, Eddie Nketiah and Kai Havertz have stepped up for Arsenal this season. Saka and Nketiah are the club’s joint top scorers with five goals, followed by Havertz with four.
Saka furthermore has been involved in 18 goals in his last 17 home games in all competitions, scoring 11 and assisting seven. He’s also had a hand in three goals in his last four league games against West Ham (one goal and two assists), though he did miss a penalty against the Hammers at the London Stadium last season.
As for West Ham, they beat Manchester United 2-0 at home in their most recent Premier League outing, leaving them in sixth place on 30 points. In league matches away from home this season, the Hammers have four wins, one draw, and four losses. West Ham’s attack has been spearheaded by Jarrod Bowen who has scored on 11 occasions, including four match-opening goals. No fewer than seven of those strikes have come away from home, with Mike Small in 1991/92 (9) the last player to score more on the road in a top-flight campaign for the Hammers.
Arsenal have won 12 of their last 13 top-flight home games against West Ham, with the exception being a 2-0 loss on the opening weekend of the 2015/16 campaign. However, after winning three consecutive league games against Arsenal between February 2006 and April 2007, the Hammers have now won just two of their last 30 against the Gunners (six draws and 22 losses). Arsenal, meanwhile, are unbeaten in their last 12 home London derbies in the Premier League (eight wins and four draws) since a 2-0 loss to Chelsea in August 2021. They’ve kept just one clean sheet sheet in this run (2-0 v West Ham in December 2021), with both such matches this season finishing 2-2.
Scoreline prediction: Arsenal 3-1 West Ham
