Arsenal team news
There are still a number of Arsenal players out in Qatar with their respective nations for the World Cup quarter-finals, with Aaron Ramsdale, Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and William Saliba all vying for glory. While the likes of Granit Xhaka, Matt Turner and Takehiro Tomiyasu were knocked out at the round of 16, they will be granted extended rest periods before rejoining Arsenal.
Gabriel Jesus is also unavailable after successfully undergoing surgery on a knee injury suffered at the World Cup and will be sidelined for a while. However, Arsenal do still have the likes of Kieran Tierney, Gabriel Magalhaes, Martin Odegaard and Oleksandr Zinchenko all in their squad for the Dubai trip – plus a number of U21 and U18 players.
Lyon team news
Lyon have already taken part in a training camp in Spain, beating Belgian side Leuven 5-3, and have a pretty full-strength squad from which to choose. They only had two players called up for the World Cup in Karl Toko Ekambi and Nicolas Tagliafico, with only the latter still in Qatar.
There is one extremely familiar face in the Lyon squad with Alexandre Lacazette set to go up against the club he left in the summer after scoring in Lyon’s 5-3 win over Leuven. Jeff Reine-Adelaide is also facing his former club, having spent three years with Arsenal between 2015 and 2018. Former Celtic striker Moussa Dembele scored a second-half hat-trick in that match and will be hoping to build up his fitness and form before Ligue 1 returns.
Scoreline prediction: Arsenal 2-1 Lyon
