- Matches are also being streamed on the AFF Cup’s official YouTube channel.
This is the 14th edition of the AFF Cup since the sub-continental competition came into existence in 1996. In that time, only four nations have claimed the top prize, with record-and-current holders Thailand lifting the coveted gong six times, Singapore claiming four titles, Vietnam winning two and Malaysia also having their name etched on the silverware.
Having initially been split into two groups of five teams, the top two from each section progressed to the semi-finals in Indonesia, Vietnam, Malaysia and Thailand.
Thailand are the defending champions and their bid to win the competition for the third time in a row is looking solid, topping Group A and beating Group B runners-up Malaysia 3-1 over two legs in their semi-final. Vietnam were Group B winners and faced Group A runners-up Indonesia in the other semi-final, winning 2-0.
So now we’re down to the final two, but the showpiece matchup isn’t a single-legged affair. In the opening contest, Vietnam and Thailand drew 2-2 with Nguyen Tien Linh and Vu Van Thanh scoring for the hosts, while Poramet Arjvirai and Sarach Yooyen nabbed for the defending champions.
It now all comes down to the second leg for a winner-takes-all.
