The 2022/23 Greek Cup has been running since the end of August, and we’re now at the semi-final stages. AEK Athens are 15-time Greek Cup winners but haven’t won the competition since 2015/16, and followed that up with four-straight runners-up finishes, a semi-final exit and last season’s quarter-final defeat.

This season, AEK entered in the fifth round and have so far beaten PAS Giannina, Kifisia and Panserraikos, with the latter two victories coming over two legs.

Olympiacos, meanwhile, are the most successful club in Greek Cup history with 28 triumphs in total including in 2020. After finishing as runners-up a year later, Olympiacos were losing semi-finalists last season, beaten across two legs by PAOK on away goals.

Entering at the round of 16, Olympiacos have beaten Atromitos and Aris over two legs to reach this stage. The second leg of this semi-final will be played on March 1, with Lamia or PAOK awaiting in the final.

AEK Athens team news

Milad Mohammadi has been out with a groin injury since the World Cup break and the 29-year-old left-back isn’t expected to return until next month. In his absence, Ehsan Hajsafi has been filling it with expert ease and will return to the starting XI having sat out of the quarter-final second leg, with AEK Athens rotating after taking a comfortable lead.

Olympiacos team news

Marcelo has missed the past five games across all competitions due to injury and the Brazilian is expected to sit out once more, in what has been an extremely underwhelming season since joining from Real Madrid in the summer. Pape Abou Cisse is also out injured, but hasn’t been a big part of Olympiacos’ side this season.
