1. FC Nürnberg vs Juventus friendly: Team news, predicted lineups and live stream

Published: 8:29, 25 July 2024

Juventus begin their preparations for the 2024/25 season with a friendly against German side 1. FC Nürnberg on Friday at 4pm (UK time).

The Old Lady will return to the Champions League after finishing third in Serie A last season. However, they’ll be looking for a big improvement after finishing on 71 points, leaving them 23 adrift of runaway leaders Inter and without a title in each of the last four seasons — failing to win one since their nine-year reign of terror came to an end.

As for Nürnberg, they’ve already played three friendlies this summer, beating Ansbach and Blackburn Rovers 4-1 and 4-2, respectively, either side of a 1-1 draw with 1860 München. You can expect a much higher level of intensity from the German side with this their last friendly before the 2. Bundesliga season kicks off on August 3rd.

As for Juventus, they are without the likes of Wojciech Szczesny, Weston McKennie and Federico Chiesa but still have a strong squad present in Germany. New signing Khephren Thuram could be given his debut from the start in midfield.

Thiago Motta ‘feeling responsibility’ of Juventus

The mood may not have been the best for Max Allegri at the end of his second Juventus tenure, but this is still a coach who won five Serie A titles and five Coppa Italia crowns with the Old Lady, while also reaching two Champions League finals. That’s enough to earn you a certain level of popularity while also heaping pressure on the next guy.

That guy is Thiago Motta and the former Italy international midfielder has admitted he is ‘feeling the responsibility’ that comes with being Juventus boss, but is excited about the challenge.

“I agree with the concept of winning; it’s the same for all top teams. I feel this responsibility, but it’s an amazing responsibility,” Motta said at his first press conference as Juventus manager. “I would not change this role with any other. I want to give my best and transmit all the enthusiasm and motivation. We want to face every game at our best and compete against everyone. This is my idea today.”
