Perhaps more than any of Europe’s big five leagues, the Bundesliga is blessed with a host of wonderkids.

Over the years, some of the continent’s brightest talents have seen Germany as a place to hone their craft, whether to conquer the league or as a stepping stone for a bigger move. And it’s no different in 2019/20.

As well as bringing excitement to the Bundesliga, it also means there is a plethora of young players in FIFA 20 Career Mode – making Germany one of the must-scout destinations.

But how have these real-life wonderkids carried over to FIFA 20? Who has the highest potential and who could grow exponentially from the start of a save? We’ve broken down the top 10 Bundesliga wonderkids, according to FIFA 20.

*For the purpose of this article, wonderkids have been restricted to players aged 20 or under at the start of a fresh Career Mode save.

10. Giovanni Reyna (Borussia Dortmund)

  • Age at start of Career Mode: 16
  • Current FIFA 20 rating: 66
  • Potential FIFA 20 overall: 86
  • Value: £1.1m

The latest wonderkid to emerge at Borussia Dortmund, Giovanni Reyna – son of former Sunderland midfielder Claudio – made a name for himself in the Champions League this season, recording an assist in a 2-1 win over Paris Saint-Germain. Prior to that, Reyna became Dortmund’s third-youngest Bundesliga player, making his debut aged 17 years and 66 days. And his potential is clear to see, with a lot of room for growth in FIFA 20.

9. Achraf Hakimi (Borussia Dortmund)

FIFA 20 Bundesliga wonderkids: Achraf Hakimi

  • Age at start of Career Mode: 20
  • Current FIFA 20 rating: 82
  • Potential FIFA 20 overall: 87
  • Value: £27m

He won’t be in the Bundesliga in FIFA 21, having secured a move to Inter Milan, but Achraf Hakimi does still get into the list for now. It may be hard to believe, given how good he already is, but Hakimi only turned 21 in November, just enough to squeeze in as FIFA 20 wonderkid. The right-back, who can also push further up the pitch, was one of just eight players to record 10 or more assists in the Bundesliga this season. This is reflected in FIFA 20 by a pass rating of 77 but the eye-watering attribute is, of course, his 95 pace.

8. Moussa Diaby (Bayer Leverkusen)

FIFA 20 Bundesliga wonderkids: Moussa Diaby

  • Age at start of Career Mode: 19
  • Current FIFA 20 rating: 78
  • Potential FIFA 20 overall: 87
  • Value: £14.5m

One to watch in the Bundesliga, Moussa Diaby has been a part of Bayer Leverkusen’s exciting side this season, linking up particularly well with Kai Havertz having joined from PSG in the summer. The now 20-year-old was directly involved in 10 Bundesliga goals this season scoring give and adding five assists. With four-star skill moves, 95 pace and 82 dribbling in FIFA 20, Diaby is a king on the wings.

7. Ibrahima Konate (RB Leipzig)

  • Age at start of Career Mode: 20
  • Current FIFA 20 rating: 79
  • Potential FIFA 20 overall: 88
  • Value: £16m

Part of RB Leizpig’s strong young squad, Ibrahima Konate didn’t see much action in 2019/20 having suffered a serious muscle injury in October. But his potential is shown on FIFA 20 with room to grow to 88, further enhancing already impressive defensive and physical ratings of 80 and 78 respectively.

6. Exequiel Palacios

FIFA 20 Bundesliga wonderkids: Exequiel Palacios

  • Age at start of Career Mode: 20
  • Current FIFA 20 rating: 78
  • Potential FIFA 20 overall: 88
  • Value: £15m

Palacios is one of the Bundesliga’s newest arrivals, joining Bayer Leverkusen from River Plate in January 2020. The Argentinian has endured a slow start to life in Germany in part due to a ban carried over from his time at River Plate, but that has not taken away from his potential on FIFA 20. Palacios boasts decent stats across the board and is very capable on the ball with four-star ratings for skill moves and weak foot.

5. Alphonso Davies (Bayern Munich)

  • Age at start of Career Mode: 18
  • Current FIFA 20 rating: 77
  • Potential FIFA 20 overall: 88
  • Value: £11.5m

Perhaps the story of Bayern Munich’s season. Nobody expected young Alphonso Davies to have the impact he has had when switching to left-back. But the Canadian has been excellent, particularly using his pace to provide adequate cover in both defence and attack. It’s no surprise Davies has the potential to grow in FIFA 20, wherever you play him.

4. Dayot Upamecano (RB Leipzig)

FIFA 20 Bundesliga wonderkids: Dayot Upamecano

  • Age at start of Career Mode: 20
  • Current FIFA 20 rating: 80
  • Potential FIFA 20 overall: 89
  • Value: £19m

Another RB Leipzig defender, Dayot Upamecano’s performances particularly in the Champions League has seen interest in him grow and it may not be too long before the Frenchman moves away from Saxony. In FIFA terms, Upamecano was rewarded for his season by being named in the Bundesliga’s Team of the Season So Far on Ultimate Team. It’s easy to forget he’s still only 21.

3. Erling Haaland

FIFA 20 Bundesliga wonderkids: Erling Braut Haaland

  • Age at start of Career Mode: 18
  • Current FIFA 20 rating: 80
  • Potential FIFA 20 overall: 90
  • Value: £20m

Erling Haaland is one of Europe’s brightest young players, tipped for greatness already by virtue of the fact he scores goals for fun. At both Red Bull Salzburg and Dortmund last season, the Norwegian teenager scored 44 goals including 10 in the Champions League. No wonder he can already grow to 90 in FIFA 20 Career Mode and was also named in the Bundesliga’s TOTSSF on Ultimate Team

2. Kai Havertz (Bayer Leverkusen)

FIFA 20 Bundesliga wonderkids: Kai Havertz

  • Age at start of Career Mode: 20
  • Current FIFA 20 rating: 84
  • Potential FIFA 20 overall: 93
  • Value: £43.5m

Another Bundesliga wonderkid, another TOTSSF member. Kai Havertz is a Bundesliga history-maker as the competition’s youngest player to score 30 goals and now looks set to become Chelsea’s latest signing, moving him away from Germany’s top flight. It’s easy to see why he has the potential to grow to 93 overall, although that’s not enough for top spot…

1. Jadon Sancho (Borussia Dortmund)

FIFA 20 Bundesliga wonderkids: Jadon Sancho

  • Age at start of Career Mode: 19
  • Current FIFA 20 rating: 86
  • Potential FIFA 20 overall: 94
  • Value: £57m

Was it going to be anyone else? Jadon Sancho was excellent in 2019/20, being directly involved in 33 Bundesliga goals this season, scoring 17 and adding 16 assists. All while having only just turned 20. In the FIFA 20 world, Sancho has an already impressive rating of 86 but this can rise to 94 overall, while he was also rewarded for his season with a TOTSSF card. Like Havertz, Sancho is currently being linked with a Premier League move.
