Feyenoord vs RKC Waalwijk build-up & previous line-ups:

It was an opportunity missed for Feyenoord just before the international break. Prior to kicking off against Vitesse the Rotterdammers witnessed eternal foe and title rivals Ajax suffering a first defeat of this season. It presented a chance for them to close the gap on Erik ten Hag’s men, who still lead the championship, by one point and knowing they still have a game in hand. However, the club from Arnhem had other ideas and ran out 2-1 winners despite ending the game with nine men, it not only ended Feyenoord’s three-game winning streak but leaves them four points behind the Amsterdammers heading into this latest round of fixtures.Since a 0-3 loss to Ajax in May they’ve played six Eredivisie home games subsequently winning them all. During this run Feyenoord have registered 17 goals and conceded just four times.

With that being said, it’s going to be a tall order for RKC to return home with a positive result, history is against them as well. Across their 25 previous Eredivisie visits to De Kuip they’ve left Rotterdam with just one victory (a 1-2 success in September 1999) and six draws with the most recent (1-1) coming in February 2012 when Robert Braber equalised with four minutes remaining on the clock. However, as things currently stand, RKC find themselves sitting outside the bottom three places due to boasting a superior goal-difference. Their form coming into this latest round of league fixtures is discouraging. Joseph Oosting’s men are on a seven-game winless streak (four defeats and three draws) as well as having failed to win any of their previous 17 away trips since a 0-2 victory at AZ in November 2020.

Players to watch: Guus Til (Feyenoord)

Chances are Feyenoord will be saying goodbye to Guus Til once this season is completed. The former AZ man is currently on loan from Spartak Moscow and reports suggest his permanent fee is beyond anything the Rotterdammers are willing to pay. You can understand their desire to retain him. The 23-year-old attacking midfielder has netted six goals across seven league outings heading into this weekend. This makes him the Eredivisie top scorer and five of those strikes have come in Feyenoord’s last three league outings. His domestic performances earned him three more international caps to go with the first he collected in March 2018 and in the Netherlands recent 6-1 win over Turkey the Zambian-born player registered his first Oranje goal.
