Feyenoord vs PSV build-up, previous line-ups & injury news:

The wheels are starting to come off for Feyenoord, who head into this weekend’s clash looking to end a three-game losing streak. A narrow 1-0 loss at footballing enemy Ajax was followed by title rivals AZ leaving De Kuip with a slender 3- win. Last time out, against Heerenveen, they were blitzed 3-0 with many questioning whether Dick Advocaat can get Feyenoord’s championship quest back on track now they find themselves 12 points behind the leaders. That aforementioned loss to AZ was the Rotterdammers’ first home defeat of the season, ending a 17-match unbeaten streak, though going into that fixture they were only able to register four wins across eight matches.

PSV’s record at Feyenoord in recent years is discouraging; across their previous 10 visits, the Eindhoven-based club managed to pick up two victories whilst suffering eight losses, their most recent win came in February 2018 when they ran out 3-1 winners. Marco van Ginkel, back on loan from Chelsea, is the only player from Phillip Cocu’s starting XI almost three years ago that remains at the club. He’s seldom featured this season, due to injury, and the Farmers come into this weekend’s game hoping to extend a three-match winning run. On the road, PSV tasted just one defeat, and since that Vitesse loss in late October they’ve registered 12 points from 18 available.

  • Feyenoord (vs Heerenveen): Marsman; Geertruida, Spajić, Senesi, Malacia; Diemers, Fer, Toornstra; Berghuis, Jørgensen, Sinisterra.
  • PSV (vs Emmen): Mvogo; Dumfries, Teze, Boscagli, Max; Rosario, Sangaré; Thomas, Fein; Zahavi, Malen.

João Teixeira, Orkun Kökcü and Justin Bijlow are missing from Feyenoord’s matchday squad all sidelined through injury while there are no fewer than five players absent for PSV when they visit Rotterdam this weekend. Nick Viergever, Cody Gakpo and Armando Obispo are ruled out whilst Richard Ledezma and Maximiliano Romero will not be available until next season. Mario Götze is a doubt.

Player to watch: Steven Berghuis (Feyenoord)

After starting the season like a house on fire, scoring nine goals across Feyenoord’s opening nine league fixtures and creating five more, things have gone quiet regarding Steven Berghuis, who comes into this high-profile game having managed just one strike and two assists in his past seven Eredivisie appearances. Berghuis remains the first name on Dick Advocaat’s teamsheet, being the Rotterdammers’ talismanic captain, and will be looking to break a six-game scoring drought. In 11 previous meetings with PSV (whilst representing VVV-Venlo, AZ as well as his current side) he’s scored three goals, all of which incidentally came at home last season.
