Fenerbahce are the Turkish champions but didn’t make it past the regular season of EuroLeague last year, finishing 12th with 10 wins from their 28 matches – four off Bayern Munich in the final playoff spot. However, they have started the 2022/23 campaign in excellent fashion both domestically and in Europe.

With three wins from three in the Super Ligi, Fenerbahce have mirrored that start in the EuroLeague, beating Bayern Munich in their opening match and then Maccabi Tel Aviv. Last time out, Fenerbahce hosted French side LDLC ASVEL and never looked out of control, ultimately winning 84-63 to sit top of the EuroLeague table.

Valencia, meanwhile, finally got their first win of the 2022/23 EuroLeague season after a poor start. After one year out in the EuroCup, Valencia’s return to the EuroLeague didn’t go to plan with defeats to Baskonia and LDLC ASVEL, losing the latter to a free throw from Jonah Matthews in the dying seconds.

Not many will have given Valencia a change, then, in their third match taking on defending champions Anadolu Efes. However, Valencia more than held their own against the Turkish side and ultimately edged what was a brilliant game 92-91, thanks to a three-point swing in the final quarter and 20 points from Bojan Dubljevic and two late free throw conversions.
