Matheus Cunha was the best attacking midfielder in the Premier League in 2024-25.
That’s according to our famous Squawka Score, which puts the now-Manchester United man at least 5% ahead of any other positional peer in the English top flight for the season.
A couple of years ago, Cesc Fabregas famously claimed the No.10 role is dying out in modern football. For many with fond memories of players like Dennis Bergkamp, this is a tragedy. Equally, though, some would counter that the role has simply changed and that there are still many examples in the Premier League today.
We have three midfield scores to rank the different profiles within the league (No.6 Score, No.8 Score and No.10). But here we’re focusing on No.10s and attacking midfielders who operate in, broadly speaking, central areas.
Cole Palmer and Amad Diallo complete the top three, with Justin Kluivert and Eberechi Eze not too far behind.
- Matheus Cunha (Wolves) – 81%
- Cole Palmer (Chelsea) – 76%
- Amad Diallo (Man Utd) – 73%
- Justin Kluivert (Bournemouth) – 69%
- Eberechi Eze (Crystal Palace) – 66%

5. Eberechi Eze

- Team: Crystal Palace
- Squawka Score: 66%
Eberechi Eze will go down in history at Crystal Palace, scoring the goal that sealed them their first-ever major trophy. He also performed well in the Premier League, averaging 0.28 goals per 90 minutes and 0.24 intentional assists. Eze’s 2.32 completed take-ons per 90 placed him in the 80-95th percentile among attacking midfielders. The Englishman ranked in the 95th percentile and above for his 3.53 shots per 90.
4. Justin Kluivert

- Team: Bournemouth
- Squawka Score: 69%
Justin Kluivert was moved away from the winger role became used to seeing him in, operating as an attacking midfielder in 2024-25. To say it brought the best out of the Dutchman would be understating it drastically.
Kluivert scored 12 league goals in 2024-25, averaging 0.46 per 90, placing him in the 80-95th percentile among attacking midfielders. He also ranked well for shots on target (1.11) and touches in the opposition box (5.88) per 90.
3. Amad Diallo

- Team: Man Utd
- Squawka Score: 73%
Amad Diallo missed a chunk of the season due to injury, but his return for Man Utd before the campaign was up sees him make this top five. The Ivorian averaged 0.38 goals per 90 in the Premier League with 0.24 intentional assists. He also had 7.2 touches in the opposition box, placing him in the 95th percentile and above among attacking midfielders. Diallo had a stint at wing-back too, which sees his tackles won average at 1.47 per 90. He was Man Utd’s best player in the season.
2. Cole Palmer

- Team: Chelsea
- Squawka Score: 76%
Cole Palmer endured a bit of a barren run in 2025, struggling in terms of scoring and providing assists. But he still managed 0.42 goals per 90 and 0.2 intentional assists per 90 across the campaign. Palmer’s lack of goal involvements wasn’t due to a lack of trying either. The Englishman averaged 0.68 big chances created per 90 in the Premier League, and 1.44 shots on target per 90. He sits in the 95th percentile and above for his shots on target.
1. Matheus Cunha

- Team: Wolves
- Squawka Score: 79%
Wolverhampton Wanderers endured a topsy-turvy campaign, but they managed to secure safety. And Matheus Cunha played a big part. In fact, he was the best attacking midfielder in the Premier League. Although he has been deployed across the front line, he’s predominantly been used in the No.10 role.
The Brazilian scored 0.52 goals per 90 in the Premier League in 2024-25, from 1.52 shots on target and with 0.17 coming from outside the box. He also created 0.45 big chances and provided 0.21 intentional assists. Cunha was unstoppable on his day, and unfortunately for Wolves that has seen Man Utd swoop in.

How do Squawka’s ratings work?
Squawka’s new player rating system is completely stats-based. Player scores are based on the numbers they put up across a range of on-ball events, from goals scored to tackles won.
Using extensive research and our expertise, we tailored each score to the players’ respective positions. For example, forwards are rated on metrics like shots on target, touches in the opposition box and big chances created. Meanwhile, centre-backs are rewarded for winning aerial duels, making blocks, successful long-range passes and so on.
