Every side has that one player they hate facing.

Sergio Aguero still strikes fear in Newcastle’s fans hearts to this day. The Argentine has scored more goals against them than any other player has against a single side in Premier League history, including five in the space of just 20 minutes back in 2015.

While despite leaving the Premier League, Harry Kane is still finding a way to torment arch rivals Arsenal. His penalty in the Champions League quarter-final first leg means he has now scored more goals at the Emirates stadium than any other opposition player, adding to the five he scored ther during his time at Tottenham.

But who are the current Premier League players that sides ‘bogeymen’?

We’ve taken a look at which players currently playing in the competition have scored the most away goals against every Premier League side across the last five seasons (since 2019/20).

Arsenal

  • Player(s): Kevin De Bruyne, Diogo Jota, Son Heung-min
  • Goals scored: 3

The Gunners have been incredible defensively in 2024, conceding just four goals in their 11 league games during this calendar year, but that hasn’t always been the case in recent years. Kevin De Bruyne, who has scored more league goals vs. the Gunners than he has against any other side, Son Heung-min and Diogo Jota, who has only failed to score or assist once at the stadium across all competitions for Liverpool.  have all enjoyed scoring success at the Emirates across the last five seasons.

Aston Villa

  • Player(s): Son Heung-min
  • Goals scored: 6

No player has scored more away league goals against a Premier League side since 2019/20 than Son Heung-min has against Aston Villa (6). The South Korean enjoys his time in the Midlands having scored one of his four league hat-tricks at Villa Park back in 2022, also finding the back of the net twice in his first trip to the ground and scoring the third of Tottenham’s four goals in their 4-0 win in March.

Bournemouth

  • Player(s): Martin Ødegaard
  • Goals scored: 3

Nine opposition players have scored multiple Premier League goals at the Vitality since 2019/20, but no-one has scored more than Arsenal’s Martin Ødegaard. 17.6% of the Norwegian’s league goals away from the Emirates have come on the south coast, finding the back of the net twice against the Cherries last season whilst also scoring from the spot earlier this campaign.

Brentford

  • Player(s): Phil Foden
  • Goals scored: 4

Phil Foden has now scored the same amount of Premier League hat-tricks as Cristiano Ronaldo, Didier Drogba and Frank Lampard (3), with his only three goal haul away from home coming against Brentford back in February. Only against Manchester United and Brighton does the Englishman have more goals against both home and away than he does vs. the Bees.

Brighton

  • Player(s): Mohamed Salah
  • Goals scored: 5

Mohamed Salah has been directly involved in more Premier League goals against Brighton (17) than any other side during his time in the competition, with five of his goals and two of his assists coming in the Amex across the last five campaigns.

Burnley

  • Player(s): Son Heung-min
  • Goals scored: 4

Special things happen when Son plays against Burnley. He was awarded the Puskás Award for his incredible solo goal against the Clarets at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in 2019, while at Turf Moor he completed his fourth Premier League hat-trick in September as Spurs ran out 5-2 winners.

Chelsea

  • Player(s): Matheus Cunha
  • Goals scored: 3

Despite making just one appearance at Stamford Bridge for Wolves, no current Premier League player has scored more away league goals against Chelsea across the last five campaigns than the Brazilian after his incredible hat-trick. He became just the second player after Diogo Jota to score a Premier League hat-trick for Wolves and the first to do it away from home.

Crystal Palace

  • Player(s): Conor Gallagher, Mohamed Salah, Tomáš Souček
  • Goals scored: 3

After spending the 2021/22 season on loan at Palace, it’s surprising to see Conor Gallagher on this list but he just loves playing at Selhurst Park. The 24-year-old has scored more top-flight league goals on that ground than anywhere else (5), with two coming for Palace and three coming against them for Chelsea. He joins Mohamed Salah and Tomáš Souček as the Eagles ‘bogeymen’.

Everton

  • Player(s): Callum Wilson
  • Goals scored: 4

Only vs. West Ham (12) has Callum Wilson scored more Premier League goals against than Everton (8), with half of them coming at Goodison Park. The Newcastle man has scored twice in back-to-back braces in each of his last two away games against the Toffees and they must have been delighted with their 3-0 win over Eddie Howe’s men this term with Wilson missing the game through injury.

Fulham

  • Player(s): Mohamed Salah, Gabriel Magalhães, Ollie Watkins, Miggy Almiron, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Bryan Mbeumo, Harvey Barnes
  • Goals scored: 2

Fulham don’t have a ‘bogeyman’ as such, with no opposition player scoring more than twice at Craven Cottage across the last five seasons, but seven players have scored multiple league goals including Arsenal centre-back Gabriel Magalhães, who has scored more Premier League goals than any other defender since he made his debut in the competition.

Liverpool

  • Player(s): Leandro Trossard
  • Goals scored: 4

You wouldn’t believe us if we told you the last Premier League hat-trick scored at Anfield wasn’t scored by a Liverpool player, but it’s true. Leandro Trossard became just the third opposition player to score 3+ goals in a Premier League away game agains the Reds after Peter Ndlovu and Andrey Arshavin when he netted three times for Brighton in their 3-3 draw. It was the first time someone had ever scored a Premier League hat-trick for the Seagulls.

Luton

  • Player(s): Rasmus Højlund, Ollie Watkins, Cole Palmer
  • Goals scored: 2

As the Premier League new boys, Luton haven’t really had the chance to have a ‘bogeyman’ in the top flight. That’s if you don’t count Erling Haaland’s five goals in the FA Cup earlier this year, which we aren’t.

Man City

  • Player(s): Dejan Kulusevski, Anthony Martial
  • Goals scored: 3

Man City finally ended the curse at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium with a 1-0 win in the FA Cup, but that doesn’t stop a Spurs player still giving them nightmares on home soil. The Swede scored his first ever Premier League goal at the Etihad after just four minutes on his Tottenham debut in a 3-2 victory over the defending champions and has scored in all three of his away league games against Man City, including a stoppage time equaliser earlier in the season.

Anthony Martial has struggled with injuries in recent seasons, but he always turns up against his side’s arch rivals. The Frenchman scored twice in Utd’s 6-3 defeat last season and the winning goal during the 2019/20 campaign.

Man Utd

  • Player(s): Mohamed Salah
  • Goals scored: 6

You were waiting for this one weren’t you. Mohamed Salah holds the record for the most Premier League goals scored against Man Utd (11), the most Premier League goals scored against Man Utd at Old Trafford (6) and the most Premier League games scored in consecutively against Man Utd at Old Trafford (4). He also remains the only opposition player to score a Premier League hat-trick agaisnt the Red Devils at Old Trafford.

It’s his home away from home.

Newcastle

  • Player(s): Dominic Calvert-Lewin
  • Goals scored: 4

Just like a Newcastle player is Everton’s ‘bogeyman’, a Everton player is Newcastle’s. Step forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin who has scored four times at St.James’ Park, including an 88th minute equaliser this season, ending a run of 18 matches and 41 shots in the competition without scoring.

Nottingham Forest

  • Player(s): Dominic Solanke
  • Goals scored: 4

Dominic Solanke is on the verge of setting a new record for Bournemouth for the most goals scored in a single Premier League campaign. Three of those goals this season came away at Nottingham Forest earlier in the season as he scored his first senior hat-trick including a stoppage time winner.

Sheffield United

  • Player(s):Marcus Rashford
  • Goals scored: 3

The Blades are on course to conceded a record amount of home goals in 2023/24 after multiple defeats where they have conceded 5+ goals. However, it’s Marcus Rashford who has scored more away league goals than any other player, despite not finding the back of the net against them so far this campaign. Instead, all three of his strikes came in the 2019/20 and 2020/21 campaigns, most recently scoring twice in a 3-2 win.

Tottenham

  • Player(s): Ollie Watkins, Nicolas Jackson
  • Goals scored: 3

Nicolas Jackson’s three goals may come with an asterix after he scored his hat-trick against nine-man Tottenham in Ange Postecoglou’s first league defeat in charge, while Ollie Watkins continues to be constant thorn in Spurs’ side whenever he visits North London.

West Ham

  • Player(s): Raheem Sterling, Jack Harrison, Mohamed Salah, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Jack Grealish, Callum Wilson, Neal Maupay, Erling Haaland, Alexander Isak
  • Goals scored: 3

No fewer than nine players have scored three away league goals against the Hammers since the 2019/20 campaign, including Mo Salah, Erling Haaland, who scored his first two Premier League goals at the London Stadium, and Alexander Isak.

Wolves

  • Player(s): Kevin De Bruyne
  • Goals scored: 5

KDB was the star of the show in Man City’s 5-1 victory over Wolves in May 2022 as he scored four times to secure his first ever Premier League hat-trick. His first three goals were scored in just 24 minutes, the third-quickest for the club in Premier League history.
