FC Porto resume Primeira Liga action when they host struggling Farense at Estádio do Dragão on Monday evening (20:15 UK time).

Sérgio Conceição’s can still mathematically win the championship but are resigned to a second place finish whilst their visitors are looking to stave off relegation.

Porto vs Farense build-up, previous line-ups & injury news:

With the Primeira Liga title Sporting bound, Porto’s attention is now squarely on securing a place in next season’s Champions League group phase, and with three games remaining they hold a four point lead over Benfica whom they played out a 1-1 draw against last time out. That result stretched the Dragon’s unbeaten league run to 25 matches (seven draws and 18 wins). At home Sérgio Conceição’s men are on a four-game winning streak and will fancy their chances of extending that run.

And that’s because their visitors Farense are entrenched in a relegation battle. Jorge Costa’s side currently find themselves second from bottom though a win, and other results going their way, from escaping the dropzone. That being said, momentum isn’t exactly on their side, the Lions of Faro have only claimed just one win across seven matches (which includes three defeats) heading into this latest contest.

  • Porto (vs Benfica): Marchesín; Manafá, Mbemba, Pepe, Sanusi; Díaz, Uribe, Oliveira*, Otávio; Marega, Taremi.
  • Farense (vs Vitória Guimarães): Beto; Tavares, Pinto, Martins, Abner; Oudrhiri; Aouacheria, Lucca, Gauld, Licá; Henrique.

Sergio Oliveira is suspended for Porto after picking up his fifth yellow card of the season. Jesus Corona is expected to have played his final game of this campaign after sustaining an injury against Famalico last month. There are no Farense players currently reported injured or suspended.

Player to watch: Mehdi Taremi (Porto)

The absence of Sergio Oliveira through suspension means Porto loses a credible scoring threat. It also means others need to step up. One individual who could rise to the occasion is Mehdi Taremi and the 28-year-old Iranian marksman goes into this latest outing having scored four times across his previous six league appearances. Those goals brought his tally for the season to 13 strikes which currently makes him the Dragon’s leading scorer. However, only four have come at home, but he did find the net last time out against Famalicão.
