It’s not long until the Friday deadline passes, so read on for our best tips ahead of Gameweek 4.

We spent all summer creating Squawka Score, our fantasy football ranking system, which gives each player a percentage score and is designed to help you identify the gems set to propel themselves onto the FPL main stage. And now after the first week of the season we’ve been given some ideas as to how the campaign could play out.

Fancy your chances against our Squawka Score super computer? We’re challenging you to beat us in our own mini-league. You can sign up here or use the league code 8ju9vx to join the Squawka Challenge League.

You can also find a full breakdown of what Squawka Score is, and how it works, via this link.

We’ve used Squawka Score to pick our squad for Gameweek 4, which has a few interesting fixtures. While we’re not expecting you to fully change your team, unless you’re an early Wildcard user, we’ve assembled a 15-man squad (within a budget of £100m) with players you should be considering — taking into account value, points, performances and fixtures — when looking at early transfers.

Gameweek 4 picks

Guglielmo Vicario, Spurs
FPL price: 5.0m
Squawka Score: N/A

His gameweek 1 score might look a little iffy but 18 points in the two weeks following have made Vicario the highest-scoring goalkeeper in the game so far this season. With the FDR claiming that Spurs have two ‘easy’ fixtures coming up, it could be a good time to bring in the Italian stopper.

Malo Gusto, Chelsea
FPL price: 4.1m
Squawka Score: N/A

Gusto’s emergence as a big-scoring defender in FPL was evident last weekend, with the right back claiming two assists and picking up 14 points along the way. Another two ‘easy’ fixtures are coming up for Chelsea and, with Reece James still sidelined, Gusto should keep his place in the team.

Rico Henry, Brentford
FPL price: 4.5m
Squawka Score: 54%

Brentford have performed well in recent weeks and Henry has been a consistent scorer, averaging just under 4 points a game. Brentford take on Bournemouth this weekend, and the Bees should be confident of picking up a result. Henry could be a catalyst to that and, at just 4.5m, is the perfect cut-price defender to add this week.

Ben Chilwell, Chelsea
FPL price: 5.8m
Squawka Score: 77%

One of the most coveted defenders in FPL this season, Chilwell has had more touches in the opposition final third than any other defender, and most midfielders, this season. A bigger outlay at 5.8m but Chelsea have a run of kind fixtures that could see Chilwell return dividends.

James Maddison, Spurs
FPL price: 7.7m
Squawka Score: 58%

It’s been a cracking starts to life at Spurs for James Maddison. Averaging over 7 points a game so far this season, Maddison has become one of the most transferred in midfielders on FPL. Burnley and Sheffield United are Spurs’ next two opponents, giving Maddison ample opportunity to put up big numbers again.

Bukayo Saka, Arsenal
FPL price: 8.6m
Squawka Score: 75%

Seven points a game is Saka’s average so far this season, the 11th best in the league to this point. He’s not one to shy away from the big matches and, with a tie against Man United this weekend, he’ll be keen to put up another impressive score.

Raheem Sterling, Chelsea
FPL price: 7m
Squawka Score: 58%

There were plenty of doubters over Sterling’s ability to be an influential match winner again but he’s set out to prove them wrong, with some scintillating performances already. Sterling picked up 19 points just last week and now faces Nottingham Forest, followed by Bournemouth, giving plenty of reason to believe he could post yet another big score.

Bryan Mbeumo, Brentford
FPL price: 6.8m
Squawka Score: 75%

Mbeumo has had a great opening to the new season, scoring three goals and averaging 8.3 points a game so far. The Cameroonian is on penalties for Brentford and, with the Bees facing a reasonable fixture schedule in the coming weeks, there’s not reason to believe Mbeumo will decline.

Phil Foden, Man City
FPL price: 7.5m
Squawka Score: 80%

If you think you can take on ‘Pep Roulette’ this week, you could be a big winner. Foden has been the standout player for Man City in the first three weeks of the season, benefitting most from the injury to Kevin De Bruyne. There’s always the chance that Foden is rested by Guardiola but if he gets 90 minutes, he’s worth big money.

Erling Haaland, Man City
FPL price: 14.0m
Squawka Score: 75%

Is it even a FPL team if it doesn’t contain Haaland? three games, three goals and he barely looks like he’s got going yet. It’s always tempting to leave him out and share the money around, but you know you’ll only end up regretting it if you do.

Ollie Watkins, Aston Villa
FPL price: 8m
Squawka Score: 64%

Watkins hasn’t found the net, in the league, so far this season, but he’s provided an assist in all three matches played this term. Aston Villa look in great shape under Unai Emery and it would be prudent to get Watkins in your squad before what looks like a very handy run of games for Villa this side of Christmas.

Bernd Leno, Fulham
FPL price: 4.5m
Squawka Score: 60%

Destiny Udogie, Spurs
FPL price: 4.6m
Squawka Score: N/A

Pervis Estupinan, Brighton
FPL price: 5.1m
Squawka Score: 79%

Yoane Wissa, Brentford
FPL price: 6.2m
Squawka Score: 52%

Every week we’ll give you a full squad we recommend for that specific Gameweek, but it’s not feasible changing all 15 players on a regular basis if you want to stay competitive. These will merely be our favourite 15 picks within a 100M budget for that Gameweek, for if you’re considering using your Wildcard, or want to overhaul your squad at a cost.

We’re also playing along in the traditional style, tweaking our team one transfer at a time. And we’re challenging you to beat us in our own mini-league. You can sign up here or use the league code 8ju9vx to join the Squawka Challenge League.
