FPL tips: Which Chelsea players should you pick for Blues’ favourable run?
There will be much focus on Chelsea over the coming weeks in FPL.
The Blues finally got their first Premier League win under Mauricio Pochettino and have a favourable run of fixtures coming up. According to FPL’s Fixture Difficulty Rating, Chelsea’s next five games see them take on four twos and one three before facing Arsenal after the October international break.

Naturally, many FPL players are looking to Chelsea to improve their squads over the next few gameweeks. But as a ‘Big Six’ team, Chelsea players are usually expensive — and of course, you can only have three.
There’s also the fact Chelsea didn’t do too well in the corresponding fixtures last season, drawing at home to Nottingham Forest, while losing to Aston Villa at home and Fulham away.
So, who do you pick, and who might be best to avoid?
Best Chelsea FPL defender: Malo Gusto or Ben Chilwell?
Pick: Malo Gusto
- Points so far: 16
- Price: 4.1
- FPL position: Defender
- FPL Squawka Score: N/A
Chelsea suffered a blow when captain Reece James picked up another injury but the Blues (and FPL managers) have a good replacement. Malo Gusto impressed on his first Premier League start for Chelsea with a brace of assists for Raheem Sterling, picking up 14 points against Luton. The Frenchman is getting forward a lot and is the creative wing-back for Pochettino, and at just 4.1 it’s such an easy pick.
Avoid: Ben Chilwell
- Points so far: 14
- Price: 5.8
- FPL position: Defender
- FPL Squawka Score: 69% *76% for FPL defender Squawka Score*
If you’re looking at Chelsea wing-backs, Gusto is definitely the pick ahead of Ben Chilwell. Although he is playing in a more advanced position, practically a winger at times, Chilwell hasn’t found his shooting boots yet. Despite two 6+ point hauls and getting into the right positions, Chilwell just isn’t doing enough in the system to warrant spending almost 6.0 of your budget that could be utilised elsewhere.
Which attacking Chelsea players should go in your FPL squad?
Pick: Raheem Sterling
- Points so far: 23
- Price: 7.2
- FPL position: Midfielder
- FPL Squawka Score: 73% *57% for FPL midfielder Squawka Score*
His points tally was massively boosted by two goals and one assist in the 3-0 win over Luton, but that match was just demonstrated why Raheem Sterling should be a pick. He is the main man for Chelsea in attack and thriving in Pochettino’s current system, often as its most central player. Sterling also hit an xA of 0.23 in the 3-1 defeat to West Ham, as one of few Chelsea players to come out of that defeat looking positive.
Avoid: Nicolas Jackson
- Points so far: 9
- Price: 7.1
- FPL position: Forward
- FPL Squawka Score: N/A
Hear us out here. We know Nicolas Jackson went into a lot of teams for Chelsea’s game against Luton, with some even captaining him, and he finally produced an attacking return. However, in Pochettino’s system he is often the man coming deeper and starting the link-up play from which Sterling is benefitting. If you have 7.1 in your budget and the ability to make two transfers, you have to go for Sterling over Jackson. The Senegalese striker may get amongst the goals more, but we have a feeling Sterling will be the better scorer.
Best bargain buy from Chelsea’s FPL options?
Enzo Fernandez
- Points so far: 3
- Price: 5.0
- FPL position: Midfielder
- FPL Squawka Score: 58% *34% for FPL midfielder Squawka Score*
As a cheap midfield option, Enzo Fernandez is one to ponder. Although he missed the penalty against West Ham, it appears the Argentinian could be Chelsea’s designated taker, creating a route to FPL points. But even if he isn’t, the £100m man is start to flex his creative muscles. In a slightly freer role, Fernandez is expected to get more involved in the attack and could rack up some assist points.
