Is the right midfield selection the basis for FPL success? We’ve crunched the numbers to identify the best picks ahead of Gameweek 8.

Among the higher point-scorers in FPL are the players who pull the strings from the middle of the park, whether they excel in making or scoring goals.

Our FPL rating system — Squawka Score — has been engineered to identify the best attacking midfielders in the Premier League, judging a player’s output per 90 minutes for a group of specifically selected stats.

Gordon to step up for Rashford’s crown

Every week, we will bring you a Differential Duel to highlight a player who both ranks well according to our Squawka Score system and isn’t being picked by the vast majority of FPL managers.

We will then crunch the numbers and pit the chosen differential against a comparable asset who is proving popular — it is then on you to choose your fighter.

This week, we’ll be comparing Brighton teammates, Kaoru Mitoma (42.6%) and Solly March (6.6%).

Brighton have certainly brought the entertainment this season, scoring more than any other team, but also conceding more than any side outside of the bottom three. Much of their attacking intent has come through Mitoma and March, who have been operating in wide areas for the Seagulls.

March has been outperforming his colleague, though, both in terms of the comparison matrix and in FPL, where March has been averaging 6.2 points per match, compared to Mitoma’s 5.7 points per match.

The added benefit of a move from Mitoma to March, would be an extra 0.2m in your pocket.

Here’s how their 2022/23 stats compare on our Comparison Matrix
