FPL differential tips: Gameweek 5 complete squad of low ownership picks
Differentials can make all the difference when it comes to success in your mini-leagues. We’ve been doing our research and have picked out a complete squad made up of players with under 10% ownership.
Partly based on our fantasy football ranking system, Squawka Score, and partly based on the good, old fashioned eye test, we’ve compiled a squad that we think might be able to compete against sides featuring some of the more popular players. Who knows? These bargains picks might even give you the edge.
You won’t find Erling Haaland (92% ownership) or Bukayo Saka (65.5%) in our squad but we still think these 15 players have the potential to pick up some big scores — and at a fraction of the cost.
Fancy your chances against our Squawka Score super computer? We’re challenging you to beat us in our own mini-league. You can sign up here or use the league code 8ju9vx to join the Squawka Challenge League.

Gameweek 5 Differential picks
Mark Flekken, Brentford
FPL price: 4.5m
Ownership: 2.9%
The Brentford stopper has adjusted well to the Premier League, keeping a clean sheet and making 13 saves in his first four games. In three of the next five weeks, the Bees have an ‘easy’ fixture (as determined by the FDR), giving him more chance to rack up the points in the coming weeks.
Joachim Andersen, Crystal Palace
FPL price: 4.6m
Ownership: 7.7%
The second highest defender all season is still owned by less than 8% of players and with Super Roy Hodgson leading the Eagles it’s easy to think that Andersen, and Crystal Palace, might continue to pick up points. At 4.6m, Andersen is at the cheaper end of defenders too making him a must pick for any differential team.
Pedro Porro, Spurs
FPL price: 5.0m
Ownership: 5.3%
Porro missed the opening game of the season, leading to a 0.1m price drop, but he’s since come into the team, earning an average of over 5 points per game. Ange-ball has certainly had a good effect on Porro and, if he can continue his good form, he could prove to be one of the better differential picks available.
Ruben Dias, Man City
FPL price: 5.5m
Ownership: 8.5%
Grabbing a mainstay in the Man City defence with less than 10% ownership is a no-brainer. Dias has played 90 minutes in all three of the games he’s been available for, making him one of the few players apparently immune to ‘Pep Roulette’. Man City have some favourable fixtures coming up too, making Dias one of the key selections this week.
James Ward-Prowse, West Ham
FPL price: 6.1m
Ownership: 6.8%
It’s not often that the third highest average points per match is available, but not even 7% of players own Ward-Prowse. His move to East London has been a massive success so far, with three assists and one goal in three games since his move from Southampton.
Moussa Diaby, Aston Villa
FPL price: 6.6m
Ownership: 9.6%
Another player that has adjusted well following a move this summer is Diaby. Villa’s new winger has found the net twice and grabbed one assist in four games, and still he’s owned by less than 10% of players. Aston Villa have a great run of fixtures coming up and ownership of Diaby should rise sharply. Get ahead of the curve.
Eberechi Eze, Crystal Palace
FPL price: 6.3m
Ownership: 9.8%
Crystal Palace’s own star man just sneaks under the 10% threshold, but it’s not through want of good performances. A breakout performance against Wolves last time out served up eight points for Eze owners and it could become a regular occurrence, especially with Palace’s options in attack improving.
Pape Matar Sarr, Spurs
FPL price: 4.6m
Ownership: 3.3%
There weren’t many people that would’ve backed Sarr to have the impact he’s had at Spurs this summer, but he’s been trusted by Postecoglu and has repaid that in a big way. A 10-point haul against Manchester United was a true show of what he can do and, priced at less than 5m, Sarr could prove to be a steal.

Callum Wilson, Newcastle
FPL price: 7.8m
Ownership: 5.2%
Wilson might be competing for a starting spot with Alexander Isak but that hasn’t slowed the England striker down. In fact, Wilson has scored more Premier League goals as a sub than any other player in 2023. Of his 17 PL goals and assists in 2023 (14 goals, 3 assists), seven of them have come from the bench (6 goals, 1 assist).
Gabriel Jesus, Arsenal
FPL price: 7.9m
Ownership: 2.4%
Jesus has played just 15 minutes of football so far this season, making his comeback from injury against Fulham, but already racked up seven points. People might be sleeping on him at this point, with less than 3% of players owning him, so jump on board the bandwagon before it gets too full.
Odsonne Edouard, Crystal Palace
FPL price: 5.5m
Ownership: 2.6%
Three goals in four matches has shown fans what Edouard can do when given the right service. Even Crystal Palace fans were debating his place in the side this summer but he’s silenced those doubters in the most impressive way. With Palace about to welcome Michael Olise, and new signing Matheus França, back into the fold this could be the perfect time to pick up Eddy.
Neto, Bournemouth
FPL price: 4.5m
Ownership: 1%
Lewis Dunk, Brighton
FPL price: 5m
Ownership: 3.9%
Ben White, Arsenal
FPL price: 5.5m
Ownership: 8.9%
Jarrod Bowen, West Ham
FPL price: 7.1m
Ownership: 9.8%
