10. Leandro Trossard

  • GW7 fixture: Southampton (H)
  • Predicted points: 5.6

Arsenal fans were worried to see Martin Ødegaard injured and wondered whether the absence of their captain could hinder their season. Since then, Leandro Trossard has earned a string of starts in the side, often playing further forward as a striker alongside Kai Havertz, making him an out-of-position prospect in the game. He has three goal involvements, including a 12-point haul against Leicester City last time out. He had two shots on target and made three key passes in that game.

9. Bryan Mbeumo

  • GW7 fixture: Wolves (A)
  • Predicted points: 6.0

Bryan Mbeumo has had a sensational start to the season for Brentford, scoring five goals in their opening six games. He’s filled the void left by the departure of Ivan Toney and an injury crisis among their forward line, plus he’s also on penalties. Mbeumo has been unlucky not to register an assist this season too, having created four big chances. Opponents Wolves have had a torrid start to the season amidst tough fixtures, with just one point on the board and 16 goals conceded.

8. Ollie Watkins

  • GW7 fixture: Manchester United (H)
  • Predicted points: 6.1

Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins continues to go from strength to strength this season following a rocky start. His fitness concerns are now behind him, with six goal involvements in his last four games. Aston Villa has won three games in this period, scoring an impressive ten goals during this time, making Watkins a key target. He also sits atop this season’s list for big chances on goal with 11, ahead of Erling Haaland. Opponents Manchester United have conceded six goals in their last four games.

7. Gabriel

  • GW7 fixture: Southampton (H)
  • Predicted points: 6.1

Arsenal centre-back Gabriel is the only defender to make this list, with the Gunners the red-hot favourites in this game and to be a side to keep a clean sheet in Gameweek 7. Last weekend was a poor one for clean sheets, with only two sides managing to keep a shutout. Gabriel’s prediction is particularly high given his goal threat, having already scored two goals in this campaign. He sits atop the list for big chances on goal among defenders this season with four, having missed an excellent opportunity against Leicester.

6. Eberechi Eze

  • GW7 fixture: Liverpool (H)
  • Predicted points: 6.1

The AI predictions remain firm on their backing of Crystal Palace talisman Eberechi Eze, despite patchy form to start the season, plus a tough home game against Liverpool. Eze has just one goal this season, with team-mate Jean-Philippe Mateta taking the most recent spot kick for the club. There’s still promise in Eze’s underlying numbers, sitting third for shots with 25 and also creating 12 chances for his team-mates. Opponents Liverpool have failed to keep a clean sheet in two of their last three games.

5. Kai Havertz

  • GW7 fixture: Southampton (H)
  • Predicted points: 6.3

Arsenal’s Kai Havertz continues to produce a high level of attacking returns as their central striker, with four goal involvements this season. All of those returns have come at home, which bodes well for this fixture against relegation candidates Southampton, who are without a clean sheet for this campaign, conceding 12 goals. Havertz excels in this central role, with 22 goal involvements from 25 league appearances this calendar year.

4. Mohamed Salah

  • GW7 fixture: Crystal Palace (A)
  • Predicted points: 7.3

Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah has perhaps his lowest-ranked prediction of the season so far, only making fourth place ahead of the visit to Crystal Palace. He has been a consistent performer in the Arne Slot era, producing eight goal involvements in six gameweeks, with only one blank. He has eight goals and five assists from 14 meetings with Crystal Palace. The Eagles have kept only one clean sheet this season, conceding nine goals in this period.

3. Bukayo Saka

  • GW7 fixture: Southampton (H)
  • Predicted points: 7.6

It’s somewhat of a surprise not to see Bukayo Saka higher on this list. Arsenal produced 36 shots the last time out against Leicester City, and although Saka failed to get involved in four goals, he still picked up a bonus point, having had four shots on target and created four big chances. He is the talisman of the side, heavily involved in set pieces, including penalties. He has been the best creator in the league this season, sitting at the top for big chances created, with nine in total.

2. Cole Palmer

  • GW7 fixture: Nottingham Forest (H)
  • Predicted points: 7.8

Chelsea’s Cole Palmer produced the performance of the season so far, scoring all four goals in the win against Brighton to accumulate 25 points. Two big chances missed plus two big chances created show that his ceiling could be even higher: he’s explosive and accumulates points quickly as a midfielder. We now have confirmation that he is the first choice on penalties for Chelsea too under Enzo Maresca. Nottingham Forest has been solid defensively this season, with two clean sheets.

1. Erling Haaland

  • GW7 fixture: Fulham (H)
  • Predicted points: 8.8

Erling Haaland leads the AI rankings as the best captain pick for FPL Gameweek 7, as Manchester City host Fulham at the Etihad this weekend. It’s a fixture in which he’s excelled in their two previous visits, chalking up four goals and one assist, including a 20-point haul last time out. Fulham has shown some defensive consistency this campaign, with only five goals conceded, although Manchester City is arguably a much tougher test than their previous opponents.
