10. Son Heung-min vs Newcastle United (A) – 5.5 Predicted Points
Son Heung-min produced one of the top performances of last weekend with two goals in the 4-0 win against Everton, taking him into the Team of the Week with 16 points. The trip to St. James’ Park on Sunday will provide a stiffer test, with Newcastle United winning three of their last four meetings. Son did produce one goal and two assists in the 4-1 home win against them last campaign, though, so he does have the pedigree to succeed in this fixture.
9. Martin Odegaard vs Brighton (H) – 5.6 Predicted Points
Arsenal’s Martin Ødegaard has been kept quiet across the opening two gameweeks of the season, with no goal involvements to date. However, he’s one of three Gunners assets to make this top 10 ahead of the visit of Brighton, who are an unknown entity under Fabian Hurzeler against tough opposition. Ødegaard’s delivery could be the key to punishing the Seagulls from set pieces, with four key passes in the last two gameweeks.
8. Kai Havertz vs Brighton (H) – 5.6 Predicted Points
There’s little to separate Ødegaard and teammate Kai Havertz, who has been reclassified as a forward this season and, therefore, scores fewer points for a goal. Havertz looks set for a string of starts in the central striker role for the Gunners, with Gabriel Jesus missing out last time due to injury. Havertz excelled in this role last season, with 18 goal involvements in the second half. He got off the mark with a goal and an assist against Wolves in Gameweek 1 — expect a similar performance here.
7. Kevin De Bruyne vs West Ham (A) – 5.7 Predicted Points
Kevin De Bruyne has been seemingly overlooked in FPL this season and should have been viewed as the less expensive alternative to striker Erling Haaland, who became the most expensive asset in FPL history. De Bruyne produced a goal and an assist in the 4-1 win over Ipswich Town, having four shots on goal in that game. He has been sharing set-piece responsibility with Savinho, and it will be interesting to see how dead-ball responsibility plays out when Phil Foden returns to the side.
6. Eberechi Eze vs Chelsea (A) – 6.2 Predicted Points
The AI predictions remain high on Crystal Palace talisman Eberechi Eze, despite his lack of goal involvement in the Premier League over the opening two gameweeks. He has had more shots on goal (12) this season than any other Premier League player, while his routes to points remain plentiful, given that he takes all of the Eagles’ set pieces, including penalties. Chelsea looks vulnerable defensively, with six big chances conceded this season.
5. Alexander Isak vs Tottenham Hotspur (H) – 6.6 Predicted Points
Alexander Isak is the most-sold player heading into FPL Gameweek 3, but his AI prediction suggests that his five million remaining managers should keep the faith. The visit of Tottenham Hotspur looks tricky on paper, but Newcastle United has an aggregate 10-1 score in this fixture at home across the last two seasons, with Isak scoring a brace in each of those fixtures. He remains the most nailed-on route into this potent Magpies attack, which tends to bully the opposition on home turf.
4. Bukayo Saka vs Brighton (H) – 6.8 Predicted Points
Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka completes a Gunners trio, and as their star man, he has the highest potential for the visit of Brighton. He’s opened his account with three goal involvements across his opening two games, with some involvement in their set pieces, plus he’s on penalties. He carries goal and assist threats in equal measure, with six shots and seven key passes on goal to date. Expect Saka to prosper against uncertainties in the left-back position for the Seagulls.
3. Mohamed Salah vs Manchester United (A) – 6.9 Predicted Points
Mohamed Salah’s season has got off to a flying start, with three attacking returns in the opening two gameweeks. His underlying numbers are promising as well, with seven shots in the box and three big chances. Expect to see a similar performance against Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday. Salah has the pedigree in this fixture; he’s scored more Premier League goals (11) against Manchester United than any other club, with only one blank in their last seven meetings.
2. Cole Palmer vs Crystal Palace (H) – 7.0 Predicted Points
Chelsea’s Cole Palmer is impossible to ignore after his 17-point haul against Wolves last time out, with one goal and a hat trick of assists for Noni Madueke. A home game against Crystal Palace comes at a good time, with the Eagles conceding four goals in their last two games. We need Palmer to stay central in this fixture, and we expect him to retain spot-kick duty in the Enzo Maresca era. He’s had seven shots and made six key passes across the opening two gameweeks.
1. Erling Haaland vs West Ham (A) – 7.3 Predicted Points
Erling Haaland retains his place at the top of the rankings as the best captain pick for FPL Gameweek 3 with a modest 7.3 predicted points for the trip to West Ham. He has four goals in four games against the Hammers and looks to extend his scoring streak to three games to start the season in his quest to retain the Golden Boot once more. He leads the way with six shots on target this season, four big chances, and an expected goal metric of 2.12—he is inevitable.
