10. Andrew Robertson

  • GW16 fixture: Fulham (H)
  • Predicted points: 5.4

Liverpool have the best defensive record of any side in the Premier League this season, keeping a clean sheet every two games, with just 11 goals conceded in this time. Full-back Andrew Robertson is a rare defender entry into this top ten for the visit of Fulham, edging out team-mate Trent Alexander-Arnold by 0.2 predicted points given that his minutes are more secure going into this game.

9. Chris Wood

  • GW16 fixture: Aston Villa (H)
  • Predicted points: 5.4

It’s an interesting match-up on Saturday evening between Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa, who sit level on points in the Premier League table. With ten goals this season, striker Chris Wood is an appealing prospect for this game, including scoring two in the last three gameweeks. Aston Villa have conceded two spot-kicks this season, with Wood converting from the spot on those two occasions.

8. Nicolas Jackson

  • GW16 fixture: Brentford (H)
  • Predicted points: 5.5

Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson is being overlooked in the transfer market, in favour of budget midfielder Enzo Fernandez, given that he’s one yellow card off a suspension. He carries bags of potential though for the visit of Brentford, who have managed just one point on the road all season. Chelsea come into this game in supreme form, with 14 goals scored in the last four gameweeks. Jackson has contributed two goals and one assist.

7. Son Heung-min

  • GW16 fixture: Southampton (A)
  • Predicted points: 5.9

Spurs captain Son Heung-min is the only differential to make this list ahead of an enticing trip to Southampton, who have conceded ten goals in their last four gameweeks. Spurs are capable of scoring heavily in this game, having racked up 3+ goals on seven occasions already. Son has produced one goal and one assist in the last four gameweeks and we now know that he remains first-choice penalty taker, too.

6. Mattheus Cunha

  • GW16 fixture: Ipswich Town (H)
  • Predicted points: 6

Since a spike in ownership ahead of Gameweek 13, Wolves striker Matheus Cunha has produced three successive blanks to frustrate the quarter of the playing pool who own him. Despite this, he remains a great forward option at home to Ipswich Town this weekend. The Tractor Boys have conceded in 11 consecutive games. Cunha has ten goal involvements for the campaign, plus he’s on penalties.

5. Bukayo Saka

  • GW16 fixture: Everton (H)
  • Predicted points: 7.1

I’m surprised not to see Saka higher in this list with a really attractive home game against Everton. He comes into this game in great form, having been involved in all three of Arsenal’s goals in their Champions League win this midweek. He has two goals and four assists in the last four FPL gameweeks, too. Set-piece goals have been crucial to the Gunners in this time, with Saka sharing corner duties, as well as being on penalties.

4. Alexander Isak

  • GW16 fixture: Leicester City (H)
  • Predicted points: 7.2

An injury to Callum Wilson means that Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak will be a mainstay over the festive period, having produced three goals and two assists in his last four Premier League starts. That takes him up to nine goal involvements in 13 appearances this season. Newcastle United have one of the best fixture runs over the festive period, with this weekend’s home game against promoted Leicester City the perfect entry point for the Magpies penalty-taker.

3. Erling Haaland

  • GW16 fixture: Manchester United (H)
  • Predicted points: 7.8

Despite seeing his ownership drop below 42% for the first time this season, AI is still predicting Erling Haaland to perform in the Manchester derby, making him the best striker option for Gameweek 16. Haaland has one goal and one assist in the last four gameweeks, from 14 shots on goal, including five big chances, underperforming an xG of 1.87 over this same period. Haaland loves playing in the Manchester derby, with four goals and two assists in two appearances at the Etihad.

2. Mohamed Salah

  • GW16 fixture: Fulham (H)
  • Predicted points: 7.8

It takes a lot to displace Mohamed Salah from the top of the AI rankings right now, given that he’s scored in seven consecutive Premier League games. He’s produced ten double digit hauls in 14 appearances this season, which is amazing consistency. Fulham have produced some defensive consistency this season but are without a clean sheet in four, conceding seven goals in this time.

1. Cole Palmer

  • GW16 fixture: Brentford (H)
  • Predicted points: 8.1

Chelsea have the fixture of the weekend at home to Brentford, with Cole Palmer topping the rankings as the best captain pick for FPL Gameweek 16 according to AI. Palmer has been involved in 43% of Chelsea’s goals in the last four gameweeks, with four goals and two assists, including converting three spot-kicks. His underlying numbers are equally impressive in this period, top for both shots (17) and shots on target (11) in this time.
