The 2024/25 Fantasy Premier League season is upon us.

Gameweek 1 has come and gone, but there’s no time to rest on the laurels. Some managers may already be looking to change things, if they went wrong on the opening weekend.

There are a lot of top quality players to choose from this season, so fitting them all in has been tough, especially with Erling Haaland’s price being set at £15m. Therefore, now more than ever, people will be looking for those bargain players to fill out their squads that will get them a steady stream of points whilst also allowing them to get in as many big hitters as possible.

The question is, which players should you be looking at bringing in and who provides the best value for money?

We’ve taken a look at some of this season’s bargains to help you out.

Goalkeepers

Dean Henderson

  • Club: Crystal Palace
  • Price: £4.5m
  • Points: 2

Despite missing a lot of last season through injury, Dean Henderson goes into the 2024/25 campaign as Crystal Palace’s number one. The 27-year-old made 18 Premier League appearances in 2023/24, averaging 3.2 saves per 90 and keeping four clean sheets.

However, it’s his improvement under new manager Oliver Glasner that should catch every FPL managers’ eye. Since the Austrian was appointed in February, Henderson’s save percentage has gone up an incredible 20.63% in the 10 games under Glasner, while he has also kept more clean sheets (4-0) and conceded 1.5 fewer goals per game compared to his eight starts under Roy Hodgson last term, with his saves per game staying the same (3.2).

In his opening game this season, Henderson made three saves gaining a point lost by conceding two goals.

Alphonse Areola

  • Club: West Ham
  • Price: £4.5m
  • Points: 1

Despite West Ham conceding a club high 74 goals in 2023/24, Alphonse Areola still racked up 116 points. The Frenchman ranked third for saves among all ‘keepers last season (138), but kept just four clean sheets.

Now under Julen Lopetegui and with a new centre-back pairing of Max Kilman and Jean-Clare Todibo in front of him and the signing of Aaron Wan-Bissaka, the Hammers should be much harder to break down this time around. And hopefully for Areola owners, more clean sheets once the defence gets settled.

Defenders

Pedro Porro

  • Club: Tottenham
  • Price: £5.5m
  • Points: 9

Pedro Porro under Ange Postecoglou is a must own in Fantasy Premier League, especially at £5.5m. The Tottenham full-back finished the 2023/24 campaign with 136 points, with 20 of these coming from bonus points — the joint most of any defender in the competition and the second most of any Spurs player behind Son Heung-min.

The 24-year-old was directly involved in 11 goals (3 goals, 8 assists), setting a new record for the most assists in a single campaign for a Tottenham defender. He’s off the mark after one game too, scoring in Tottenham’s 1-1 draw with Leicester. Porro was the highest-scoring defender in GW1.

Malo Gusto

  • Club: Chelsea
  • Price: £5.0m
  • Points: 1

With Reece James suspended for the first three games as well as picking up another hamstring injury, Malo Gusto will looking to prove his worth to new manager Enzo Maresca and he has some favourable fixtures to do it in. After facing Man City in GW1, Chelsea don’t face any of the top eight sides up until GW8, with home fixtures against Palace, Brighton and Forest in that time.

Despite starting just 19 league games in 2023/24, Gusto finished the season with the fourth highest amount of FPL assists among defenders, while Ben White (9) was the only defender to create more big chances in 2024 than the flying full-back (6). If Chelsea can improve defensively then he will prove to be more than a bargain at just £5.0m.

Midfielders

Diogo Jota

  • Club: Liverpool
  • Price: £7.5m
  • Points: 8

If you can’t fit Mohamed Salah into your team at £12.5, then Diogo Jota is your man. Not only is the Portuguese midfielder £5m cheaper, but he seems to be edging Darwin Nunez out for the striker role under Arne Slot and who doesn’t like an OOP player.

Despite missing a lot of last season through injury, Jota still managed to score 10 goals and provide seven FPL assists in just 1,151 minutes of action. That equates to a goal involvement every 67.7 minutes, which may be unsustainable but if he gets anywhere near that rate then he will prove to be one of the must own players in FPL. And he’s made a good start with a goal in Liverpool’s opening 2-0 win over Ipswich.

Declan Rice

  • Club: Arsenal
  • Price: £6.5m
  • Points: 3

Nicolas Jover has transformed Arsenal’s set pieces and is one of the huge reasons why Declan Rice at £6.5m is a bargain. The £100 million man from West Ham finished the 2023/24 season with personal bests for both goals (7) and fantasy assists (9) in a single top-flight league campaign.

His deliveries from set-pieces were superb and this was shown once again in the pre-season victory over Lyon, where he provided the assist for both of the Gunners’ goals. In 2024 alone, he ranks joint-second for assists in the Premier League with only Kevin De Bruyne providing more. If he keeps this up, he will be in a lot more sides than he currently is.

Forwards

Dominic Solanke

  • Club: Tottenham
  • Price: £7.5m
  • Points: 2

After Harry Kane’s departure, Tottenham were crying out for a clinical forward to finish off their chances last season and they finally have it with the signing of Dominic Solanke from Bournemouth.

After setting a new club record at the Cherries for most goals scored in a single Premier League campaign, the former Chelsea and Liverpool forward once again finds himself back at a ‘Big Six’ side and has a point to prove. Spurs ranked in the top four for touches in the opposition box, shots, shots from inside the box and shots on target last season and if they put up similar numbers this time around, then Solanke should score 20+ league goals for his new side.

Rodrigo Muniz

  • Club: Fulham
  • Price: £6m
  • Points: 2

If Rodrigo Muniz can begin this season how he started 2024, then he won’t be £6m for long. The Fulham forward has scored nine goals in 18 Premier League appearances during this calendar year, but it has been at Craven Cottage where he has impressed the most, finding the back of the net seven times in his last eight matches on home soil.

He tailed off slightly towards the end of the season as the Cottagers took their foot off the gas but with the arrival of Emile Smith Rowe and the quality service from Andreas Pereira he should pick back up again.
