The Toffees shocked the footballing world by announcing the appointment of the legendary Italian coach – who has won three Champions League titles as a manager – just minutes before their clash with Arsenal last weekend.

The glow of optimism has once again returned to the blue half of Merseyside as a result and there to try and dampen the spirits are Sean Dyche’s Burnley, who have recovered well from their 5-0 defeat to Tottenham by recording 1-0 wins over Newcastle and Bournemouth.

Ones to watch

Everton: Richarlison

Richarlison has rediscovered his form recently and is showing all the signs of fulfilling his budding potential. Under Ancelotti, you can only see the Brazilian getting even better.

The ex-Watford forward has scored more Premier League goals (6) than any other Everton player so far this season and his contribution in the 18-yard box will be key in breaking down a stubborn Burnley side.

Key stat: Richarlison has completed more take-ons (31) than any other Everton player in the Premier League this season.

Burnley: Chris Wood

Optimism is going to be high at Goodison Park on Thursday, so killing the crowd early will be important, while Burnley being clinical and taking their chances will be key to sealing three points.

Chris Wood has emerged as the Clarets’ chief goal-threat so far this season and will be relied upon once again by Dyche to give his side the edge.

Key stat: Chris Wood has scored more Premier League goals (7) than any other Burnley player this season.

Squawka prediction

Has there been a more surprising or impressive managerial appointment in recent years than Ancelotti at Everton? Ferguson did a wonderful job steadying the ship following the sacking of Marco Silva, and Ancelotti will look to make a quick start to life at Goodison Park against Burnley. That feelgood factor might be too much even for a resolute Burnley to hold back.

Scoreline prediction: Everton 2-0 Burnley
