‘Man United have been doing badly for years!’ – Ajax’s Davy Klaassen questions why Erik ten Hag would go to Old Trafford
Ajax midfielder Davy Klaassen has questioned why his manager and reported Manchester United target, Erik ten Hag, would leave Amsterdam to join a club that has be ‘doing badly for years’.
Ten Hag is favourite to be appointed Man United’s next manager ahead of the 2022/23 season, with reports claiming that United have already enquired about what it would take to lure the 52-year-old to Old Trafford.
It is understood that a modest compensation fee would be required to release Ten Hag from Ajax, believed to be in the region of £1.6m, and the Dutchman is the clear favourite among the bookmakers to take on the job as well.
At present, 1/3 are the shortest odds available for Ten Hag, while former Tottenham manager and second-favourite Mauricio Pochettino is available at 4/1.

But Ajax midfielder Klaassen has not given up hope of the two-time Eredivisie winner staying in Amsterdam, and questions whether the lure of Old Trafford is as strong as it once was.
“He has been doing well with us for years and Manchester United has been doing badly for years,” Klaassen told Voetball Primeur.
When asked whether he was concerned Ten Hag could leave, he responded: “He can also stay. I hope so.”
