Sarina Wiegman’s side kick off Euro 2022 on July 6 against Austria at Old Trafford and started their build up to the home Euros by beating Belgium 3-0 at Molineux. However, Elland Road brings a completely different test against Wiegman’s old team and defending European champions Netherlands, who will be looking to dampen the hosts’ spirits while reminding everyone that they are contenders for Euro 2022 glory.

England Women team news

Before last week’s friendly against Belgium, Wiegman named her 23-player squad for Euro 2022 which saw former captain Steph Houghton miss out having failed to reach the required levels following injury. Fran Kirby was in a similar situation to Houghton but was named in the squad and made her return to the pitch after three months out against Belgium.

The Chelsea forward will be hoping to make more of an impact against Netherlands, potentially from the start should Wiegman look to rotate her attacking options. Alessia Russo and Beth England will also be pushing for starts, with Ellen White ruled out after testing positive for Covid.

Alex Greenwood should start in defence after being a substitute against Belgium, having only recently recovered from Covid, with Lotte Wubben-Moy the one to drop out.

Netherlands Women team news

Women’s Super League fans will know a few names in the Netherlands squad including top scorer Vivianne Miedema who may lead the line for Mark Parsons’ side despite dropping to a deeper No.10 role at Arsenal. Also in the squad is Aniek Nouwen, who won the WSL with Chelsea, and Jackie Groenen who will leave Manchester United this summer – as well as former WSL stars including Danielle van de Donk, Sari van Veenendaal and Jill Roord.

Also in the Netherlands squad is Lyon midfielder Damaris Egurrola, the United States-born former Spain international who recently pledged her allegiance to Netherlands, eligible through her mother.

Scoreline prediction: England Women 1-1 Netherlands Women
