Rybakina shot to global fame over the summer as she stormed her way to the Wimbledon title, beating Ons Jabeur in three sets in the final, her first major win. The US Open did not go so well with Rybakina losing in the first round to Clara Burel but the Kazakhstani star will be hoping to use the Slovenian Open to get her rhythm back. There will be some comparisons made between Rybakina and Emma Raducanu following her US Open win last year, and the Brit was knocked out early in Slovenia.

Twenty-three-year-old Rybakina entered the Slovenian Open at the first round and had to come from a set down to beat Laura Siegemund 6-7 (4), 6-4, 7-6 (8). Things have been a lot more straightforward for Rybakina since, beating Tereza Martincova 6-4, 6-1 in the second round and enjoying a walkover victory against Lesia Tsurenko.

Bogdan, meanwhile, has been something of a bane for the seeded players at the Slovenian Open this year. Drawn against eighth seed Ajla Tomljanovic in the first round, Bogdan emerged victorious 7-5, 4-6, 6-1, a story of her tournament so far.

In the second round, Bogdan once again dropped a set in beating Tamara Zidansek 6-1, 6-7 (5), 6-1, to set up a quarter-final match against second seed Beatriz Haddad Maia. And, guess what, Bogan won the first set and dropped the second before eventually winning 6-1, 1-6, 7-5. She’d definitely take a repeat against Rybakina if it gets her to the final.

Prediction: Elena Rybakina to win in three sets
