Eintracht Frankfurt vs West Ham predicted XIs- Team news as struggling Chelsea star backed for Hammers move

Eintracht Frankfurt and West Ham meet on Thursday night for the second leg of their Europa League semi-final tie, with the Eagles currently 2-1 up on aggregate (8pm kick-off, UK time).

Oliver Glasner’s men executed a perfect gameplan at the London Stadium last week, placating the home crowd within the opening minute after Ansgar Knauff broke the deadlock, before responding through Daichi Kamada after Michail Antonio restored parity. This second leg is delicately poised.

Frankfurt team news vs West Ham: Ndicka, Jakic back from bans

  • Ins: Evan Ndicka, Kristijan Jakic
  • Doubts: Jesper Lindstrom, Christopher Lenz

Evan Ndicka and Kristijan Jakic are both back from European suspension in a huge boost to the hosts. Ndicka picked up a late red card in the 3-2 win at the Camp Nou against Barcelona and his one-match suspension carried over to the first leg, but he can now slot back into the Eagles’ back-three. Jesper Lindstrom meanwhile came off injured at the London Stadium with a hamstring strain and missed Monday’s 2-0 defeat to Leverkusen, but he could potentially return here as he faces a late fitness test.

West Ham team news vs Frankfurt: Johnson a doubt

  • Ins: Craig Dawson, Issa Diop
  • Outs: Angelo Ogbonna
  • Doubts: Ben Johnson

Craig Dawson returns here after serving out a domestic ban in the weekend’s 2-1 defeat to Arsenal, so he is expected to partner Kurt Zouma, with Issa Diop also an option following the Frenchman’s swift return to action. Angelo Ogbonna remains a long-term absentee, while Ben Johnson is a doubt after missing the Gunners defeat with a thigh strain, meaning Vladimir Coufal is likely to start at right-back.

In other news, West Ham’s transfer strategy this summer could hinge on this game, as they face the daunting prospect on missing out on European football next season if they don’t triumph in the Europa League. Either way, former West Ham goalkeeper Shaka Hislop believes the club should be keeping tabs on a certain Christian Pulisic of Chelsea, who has struggled for significant minutes at Stamford Bridge this term — making just 10 Premier League starts.

Hislop echoed a sentiment by former Chelsea midfielder Craig Burley on ESPN FC that Pulisic should seek consistent minutes away from west London, saying: “That step down to another club, a smaller club, Craig mentions my former club West Ham, which I think would be a great fit for him, might be exactly what he needs if is to be playing, if he wants to start and start regularly.

“I think that would be a very good fit and a very good fit for him both in terms of where he is as a player and the type of football that West Ham play.”
