Colombia will be looking to get their World Cup qualifying campaign back on track when they travel to the Estadio Rodrigo Delgado in Quito to face Ecuador on Tuesday at 21:00 (UK Time).
It’s only the fourth round of the World Cup qualifying campaign for the South American teams, but Ecuador have already proved themselves as a team to be feared. Ecuador kicked off this campaign with a narrow 1-0 loss against Argentina but did well to bounce back with two consecutive victories against Uruguay and Bolivia. They have scored seven goals in the last two matches, but they have also conceded four goals in the process. Ecuador have only lost once in their last five home games, which was actually a narrow 0-1 defeat against Colombia in a friendly game back in November 2019. Ecuador have lost their last two home meetings with Colombia without scoring a single goal in the process.
On the flip side, Colombia won against Venezuela in the first round and then managed to salvage a point from their trip to Chile thanks to a stoppage-time equaliser from Radamel Falcao. However, they suffered an embarrassing 0-3 home loss against Uruguay in the previous round, in a game in which they had the better ball possession and the most shots on target. This leaves the Colombians only 7th in the group standings, but just one point behind the qualifying places. Away from home, Colombia have only lost two of their last 15 games across all competitions and are currently unbeaten in four competitive fixtures.
Will Ecuador secure a third consecutive win in this World Cup qualifying campaign? Or will Colombia put an end to their opponents’ streak?
