Borussia Dortmund will be seeking a semblance of revenge when Ajax visit the Westfalenstadion for a Champions League showdown on Wednesday evening (8pm UK time).
Erik ten Hag’s men, who can reach the knockout phase with a win, humbled their German hosts 4-0 in Amsterdam last time out. The Black and Yellows can go level with the Group C leaders if they pick up all three points, though they will need a significant lead to overturn their poor head-to-head record.

Dortmund vs Ajax build-up & previous line-ups:
It’s not often that Borussia Dortmund go into a Champions League home game without being overwhelming favourites. Such was their humbling experience in Amsterdam last time out Marco Rose’s men are on the proverbial backfoot. The loss of leading marksman and talismanic figure Erling Haaland has only made matters worse but since their 4-0 loss at Ajax a fortnight ago Dortmund have won three matches on the bounce in all competitions and come into this showdown with a semblance of momentum which cannot be said for Erik ten Hag’s side. There’s more than points at stake as Dortmund are unbeaten in their last 10 group stage home games (seven wins and three draws), keeping a clean sheet in seven of these fixtures, since a 1-2 loss against Tottenham under Mauricio Pochettino in November 2017.
Rose and co. would have watched Ajax struggle to break down a determined Heracles defence over the weekend. Ten Hag, meanwhile, will be hoping the bright lights of Champions League football elicits a reaction from his side who have bagged 11 goals across their opening three matches. Under him they usually turn up away from home, the Amsterdammers come into Wednesday’s game having only lost one of their last 10 away games in the Champions League group stage (which includes five wins and four draws), with that only defeat coming against Liverpool in December 2020. De Godenzonen, who have only won two of their previous ten Champions League games on German soil, will nevertheless be looking to record consecutive away wins in the group stage for the first time since October 2019.

Player to watch: Sébastien Haller (Ajax)
After the first three Champions League matchdays of the season, who could have seen tournament debutant Sébastien Haller leading the scoring charts. The 27-year-old Ivorian marksman bagged a sensational ‘poker’ (or four goals scored) at Sporting before registering strikes respectively against Besiktas and Dortmund last time out. Not only that, Haller has been directly involved in more goals than any other player in the competition heading into the fourth week (eight – six goals and two assists). Among those to have debuted in the competition since 2003/04, this is already the most direct goal involvements in a player’s opening four appearances, which is one more than Erling Haaland managed (7).
