David Beckham’s Inter Miami have confirmed the club’s first-ever signings after agreeing to bring in Matias Pellegrini and Julian Carranza from the Argentine top flight.

The two 19-year-old forwards will join the MLS expansion franchise as Miami look to build a squad ready to compete.

Inter Miami getting ready to begin: Five key things to know…

  • David Beckham announced his intention for an expansion franchise in Miami in 2014.
  • The investment group aim to build a new stadium to house the team.
  • The team will begin playing in 2020.
  • The new stadium will be ready in 2022, with the team playing at a temporary home until then.
  • Inter Miami have signed their first players in Pellegrini and Carranza.

The two players come from the Argentine top-flight and are the first-ever players to be registered with Inter Miami.

The team is scheduled to start the 2020 season in MLS and are beginning the process of signing players.

The new additions are both just 19-years-old and are highly thought of by sporting director Paul McDonough.

“It’s important for us that we found young, exciting attacking players that are on the upside of their career and have the potential to be really good players in this league,” McDonough said in a statement. “We will continue to build and add quality players that are the right fit for our club.

“We started with youth, but we know it’s also important to have veteran players who come from both overseas and within the league to balance out the roster over time.”

Who are Matias Pellegrini and Julian Carranza?

The two Argentine youth internationals will be hoping to develop their game in the MLS and are exciting prospects according to those at the club.

Pellegrini joins from Estudiantes de La Plata, where he will remain on loan until 2020.

Carranza, who scored eight goals in 29 games over the last two seasons, joins from Banfield and, again, will remain on loan at his current club next season.

“Both Julian and Matias showed us they really wanted to take the next step of their careers with Inter Miami CF,” McDonough added.

“We liked that Pellegrini can play inside and out wide, has very good aerobic capacity and can cover a lot of ground, while Julian is a very grounded player with an impressive work rate.

“He’s the player that strives to score goals and is very good in the box.”
