At the fourth time of asking, Daniil Medvedev finally defeated Roberto Bautista, 6-2 6-4, to secure his Halle semi final place. Medvedev has looked imperious all week as he’s not dropped a single set. The native of Moscow has accomplished what many deemed impossible by replacing Novak Djokovic as the world’s number one twice in 2022, but the Russian hasn’t won silverware in these last six months, in fact he had his best chance of lifting a title on grass at Hertogenbosch last week, but Medvedev could only win five games against Tim Van Rijthoven in the final. Medvedev comes into this game having won 13 of his last 15 semi final matches on the main tour, with one of those losses coming against eventual Mexican Open champion Rafael Nadal earlier this year.

A contrast to Medvedev’s experience at Halle this week has been Oscar Otte who endured three gruesome tests this week. Otte was able to overcome them against Miomir Kecmanovic in straight sets and Nikoloz Basilashvili and Karen Khachanov in three sets. The home favourite twice registered his best career-best result on the main tour in the last two months, and Otte can go one better with one more success in Halle this week. This will be his third ATP-ranked semi final appearance with both of those previous outings coming in German events in Stuttgart last week and Munich earlier this year, that being said, he lost to eventual champions Matteo Berrettini and Holger Rune, respectively.

Prediction: Daniil Medvedev to win in straight sets
