Daniele De Rossi ready to ‘fight’ after replacing Jose Mourinho at Roma
Roma will begin a new chapter after naming club legend Daniele De Rossi as interim manager.
De Rossi temporarily succeeds Jose Mourinho, after the much-travelled Portuguese tactician was dismissed following a disappointing spell of form.

Roma had won one of five matches in all competitions, which included last week’s elimination from the Coppa Italia at the hands of city rivals Lazio while losing further ground in Serie A.
Mourinho leaves the Giallorossi in ninth — albeit five points behind fourth-place Fiorentina, who currently occupy the final Champions League place.
“We will always have great memories of his tenure at Roma, but we believe that an immediate change is in the best interests of the club,” owners Dan and Ryan Friedkin said.
“We wish José and his assistants all the best in their future endeavours.”

Beyond winning the inaugural Uefa Europa Conference League, Mourinho was in charge of Roma for 96 games (44 wins, 23 draws and 29 losses) in Serie A, recording an average of 1.61 points. This is the lowest such ratio among the managers to ever oversee 50+ matches with the Giallorossi in the three-points-per-win era (since 1994/95).
Mourinho’s dismissal opened the door for De Rossi’s return. A graduate of the club’s academy, De Rossi made over 450 appearances for Roma in Serie A between 2001 and 2019, though his professional career would end with Boca Juniors.
De Rossi will oversee Roma’s first team until the end of the season. This will be his second managerial job after Serie B side SPAL hired the former defensive midfielder last season (they sacked him after just three wins in 17).

From my side, I know no other way but dedication, daily sacrifices, and giving everything I have in order to face the challenges that await us from now until the end of the season,” he said.
“The excitement of being able to sit on our bench is indescribable. Everyone knows what Roma means to me. However, the work that awaits us all has already taken precedence.
“We have no time or choice but to be competitive, fight for our goals, and try to achieve them, which are the only priorities my staff and I have set for ourselves.”
Roma next play Verona in Serie A this Saturday evening.
