Croatia team news

Croatia will be hoping Luka Modric will be available to play from the start against France on Monday, having come off the bench in the 3-0 defeat to Austria – just six days after he played 90 minutes in Real Madrid’s Champions League final win over Liverpool. Sime Vrsaljko, Josko Gvardiol and Ivan Perisic all missed the game with Austria due to injury and may not be risked so soon after, particularly with two more matches still to come in this international window.

France team news

On top of their defeat to Denmark, France also saw Kylian Mbappe and Raphael Varane come off with knocks on Friday and though neither were deemed serious, there may be an unwillingness to throw them straight back into the team unless absolutely necessary. One man who might want Mbappe back in the team is France president Emmanuel Macron, who recent revealed he spoke to the forward before he re-signed for PSG, urging him to stay in France to defend the country.

“Yes, it is true that I had a conversation with Kylian Mbappe before he made a firm decision about his future,” Macron told reporters.

“In it, I merely advised him, in a totally informal way, to remain in France. I believe it is my responsibility, as president, to defend the country when asked in an informal and friendly manner.

“I have never intervened in any transfer. Just like any other citizen, when it comes to sporting matters, I always want to see a good game and cheer on a team, especially, in my case, Olympique de Marseille.”

Scoreline prediction: Croatia 1-2 France
