Serie A champions AC Milan get their pre-season underway when they face German side Cologne on Saturday at 6pm (UK time).

Stefano Pioli’s side will be hoping to retain their Scudetto in 2022/23 and kick-start the campaign against Udinese on August 13, and kick-start preparations with a trip to Germany as part of a European friendly tour. For Cologne, the new campaign starts with the DFB-Pokal first round against Jahns Regensburg, so they are midway through their pre-season with three friendlies already in the bag.

Cologne team news

As mentioned, Cologne’s pre-season has been up and running for quite some time, with their first friendly coming against Mondorf on July 1, a 12-1 win for the Bundesliga side. They beat Austria Lustenau 4-0 and then drew with Grasshoppers but this will be the biggest test of their preparation so far. Cologne have had a busy summer in the transfer window too, signing seven new players including Steffen Tigges from Borussia Dortmund and Denis Huseinbasic who has already made himself at home in the midfield.

AC Milan team news

Franck Kessie suffered the big blow of losing Franck Kessie on a free transfer this summer, with the Ivorian midfielder joining Barcelona, one of six departures from the San Siro. They have been replaced by two news players so far, including Divock Origi, while also securing Junior Messias and Alessandro Florenzi on permanent deals after successful loans last season. Origi could lead the line for the first time against Cologne too, with Zlatan Ibrahimovic still out due to injury.

Scoreline prediction: Cologne 1-2 AC Milan
