Chile vs Venezuela build-up, previous line-ups & injury news:
After an unusually poor start to World Cup qualifying — winning just one of their opening 10 games — Chile took a massive step in the right direction, beating Paraguay 2-0 last time out. La Roja are now just five points adrift of the playoff place and six behind the automatic qualifying spots and a home tie against the group’s basement side should be the perfect follow-up fixture.
But La Vino Tinto will be riding high themselves after beating Ecuador 2-1 last time out, ending a run of four consecutive qualifying defeats. Venezuela remain bottom of the group, but a win here would draw them level with Chile and give them half a chance of grabbing a playoff spot.

Player to watch: Arturo Vidal (Chile)
Best known as a combative midfielder, Arturo Vidal is a much bigger goal threat than he’s given credit for. The 34-year-old has scored over 100 goals across his club career to date while at international level, he’s found the net 32 times in 128 caps so far. That’s enough to place him fifth on Chile’s all-time scoring charts.
Four of those goals have come in this qualification cycle — only Michael Estrada (5), Lionel Messi (6), Neymar (6) and Marcelo Moreno (8) have more — including one in a 2-1 defeat to Venezuela earlier in this campaign. Another goal for Vidal here would go down well as Chile seek to get their Qatar 2022 campaign back on track.
